Montes upper body seemed thicker set and that accounted for an extra 10 pounds. Haye has gone old school at heavy and weighed in at what a 6'3 fighter should weigh in. Ali, Norton and Holmes aren't small heavies.

I think his weight is fine - too much and he will lose the speed.

If he loses the speed he becomes just like every other heavyweight outside of the Klitschko's, with a bit more power.

To beat those two, you need as many things in your favour as you can. Piling on another 10-15lbs isn't going to improve his chin, or his power which is fine anyway.

On the positive side, his power really carried, enough to trouble anyone in the division, apart maybe from Valuev who seems to have a head made of concrete.

On the negative side, he fought with very little discipline and there appeared to be absolutely no improvement in his defence. He did not use the jab anough. Monty was trying just to swing wildly, however someone like Wlad who has a superb one-two combination would be a different proposition, is Haye will fight the same way against Wlad and leaves himself so open for his right hand, he will be knocked into the back rows.

He seems to smarten up in the ring a bit and not just rely on his speed and power so much.

Haye wasn't allowed to fight in a textbook manner, Barrett was wild and indisciplined and dragged Haye into a scruffy, bomb throwing affair.

So I don't blame Haye for not being so methodical and not using the jab as well as he could. He wasn't really allowed to. But that's not to say he didn't impose himself on Barrett, he clearly did, he kept flooring him.

I think Haye could do with a few more fights before taking on the Klit's. Even a seasoned campaigner like Holy took a few fights to work his way in to the heavies. You don't go from Fragomeni to Klitscho in 2 years and 4 fights or so. The gulf is ridiculous in size, class, scale of event, everything.

Haye is still quite a fresh, naive boxer IMO.

Thought he was a bit open too. In the flurries yes Haye was having success but Monte was only missing by fractions himself, it just seemed a bit more from luck than judgement on Haye's part.

I think it was a good proper start on the HW road though, I think he was only blowing because he kept having Monte going so had to go for it then he got a bit ragged. If Monte had been hit less then we would have seen a bit more from Haye, a la Mormeck where patience and working openings was the right path. Horses for courses int it.

As for the VK's? Go for Vlad, brother Vit's too big and too solid.

Has Vit ever been wobbled? Can't recall it, lewis landed some but i don't seem to remember Vit being too troubled...but for the blood of course.

My opinion hasn't changed based on Saturday. If he fights either of the Klitchskos next he gets jabbed to death and loses big.

I think he could do with at least one, maybe two fights before fighting them. Trouble is with all of his talk I think he's made a rod for his own back now. The general public wont have the patience for him to take another 2 tune-ups.

Barrett was hopeless, everything has to be put in that context. Haye needs another fight before either K.

Barret is close to being shot as a fighter, still It's a good win for Haye in his ascent of the heavyweight championship.
Evander Holyfield proved himself as a legitimate heavyweight by defeating Michael Dokes and Alex Stewart before fight aficionados took him seriously. Hopefully Haye will step up in his next few fights. A fight with Arreola, Thompson or Chambers would be interesting.
Haye is certainly an exciting fighter.
