We came to a pub around 3pm one Friday to get on the turps. There were a bunch os islanders whi had obviously been drinking for a long time already having a good laugh. Later on when we were outside we heard some commotion and the islanders piled onto the streets and 2 of them were in an argument. One guy hit the other guy a few times fairly hard and I foolishly followed them trying to stop the beating. There was a fair amount of blood on this poor pissed dude and when I followed them around the corner one of the guys picked up a long 2x4 and swung it and hit the guy pretty much as hard as he could. It was quite a long piece of wood - say 1.2 meters long so he couldnt really get full leverage but the guy took the shot, kind of staggered a bit and kept following the group. My mates caught me and pulled me back and I watched them walk away. Those islanders are tough as nails and Tua's granite chin was not surprising given some of the fights I've seen. I don't know if Tus took anything but the guy had the x-factor power that 'roids isn't really going to improve. Tua and Ike fought for 12 rounds throwing big bombs breaking compubox records. If anything they were on something for their stamina that night. Personally I think Tua is just a super strong and tough guy from a genetically strong warrior race where survival of the fittest weeded out any weakness. He was taught to punch properly and in some ways he became way too reliant on that left hook. If he had a better jab and straight right he definitely would have won the title he deserved.
Knowing alot of Pacific Islanders I would have to say probably not. Samoans in particular firmly believe in their natural abilities.
There is so much ignorance in this thread. Then some people call others out on unwarranted assumptions. Violations of fairness, logic & common sense. Samoans do tend to carry a lot of muscle mass & bone thickness & density &-Tua's level of bodyfat he is within what is possible to obtain naturally. 2. We do not know if he used, but it is much more just & reasonable to say he may well have been natural than assume absent any rational evidence whatsoever that he used PEDs. 3. It is laughable to either assume everyone was clean-or nobody who ever tested dirty ever used-OR that everyone must have used PEDs. There are factors that could push people in either direction. If everyone used or anything like this we would know/hear about it, not lazy demafatory speculation assuming guilt without evidence. 4. It was said Ikebuchi used & his tite was taken away because of it. We have no idea if he used, & he never ha any title. 5. Misinformation correction clearinghouse: people can use without looking muscular or cut. Others can look both & be clean. Testosterone or other drugs do not assure you look "good". Someone being aggressive or looking "pissed" does not show they likely used. This conduct or attitude always existed even before steroids were invented. 6. Tua did not have the stated traits of disproportionate muscle around areas that connected to the shoulder, such as Traps-like Holyfield. He was big all over & his legs even more so. None of this proves he did not use-& you cannot prove a negative. 7) Showing ferocious power is not even suspicious, c'mon. If so Foreman was using steroids when Saddler foolishly had him coming in dehydrated... Let us have no more idiocy like assuming guilt based on nothing at all. Or assuming everyone always drugged up at some times. Or that nobody ever did so, smh.
The idea that Tua must’ve been on roids because he was 5’10” and 200-220lbs when fairly trim, and 245lbs when pretty chubby, is hilarious. Wonder what y’all would make of every Pacific Island front row forward in rugby who is 5’10” - 6’2” and weighs 260-310. Hell, Ngani Laumape is like 5’8” 227lb with abs.
Actually what’s surprising about Tua is that when he was 19/20 he was only just over 200lbs. He was probably the smallest person out of all of his friends and family.
tbh Pacific Islanders being heavy relative to their ‘frame’ is a disadvantage in sports with weight classes.
I use to train at the same gym with David in the 90’s and he was just a naturally big guy he was one of the widest guys I’ve ever met. I highly doubt he was on something…. I also use to train with Andrew Golota and in my opinion he definitely was his back looked like an acne roadmap his locker was right next to mine.
I don't know whether he was on gear or not the Samoans I've known were just naturally very strong solid dudes. The misconception that you have to be diced shredded with 3% body fat is a bit silly. Most of the roid monsters I've known were big guys but fat as well very few were conventionally shredded.
That's how you know you ****ed with the wrong people lol. Islanders are the toughest made people on earth without a doubt. You should see them in rugby, absolute animals.
