If you want the definitive story of Dempsey's "ko" at the hands of Fireman Jim Flynn in one rd in 1917,this article will open your eyes. Type it on google.
Senya, don't be snide! I happened to stumble on this article about 1 hr.ago and i thought this article would be of interest to some thoughtful posters on ESB. I had read Monte Cox's column years ago,but hadn't seen it since.S, as a boxing fan of many eons,I have been weaned from childhood on ,by oldtime boxing trainers, writers who saw the peak Dempsey fight and their opinion of him has shaped my thinking of the great Manassa Mauler. Remember Senya, I MIGHT BE RIGHT . Cheers...
Addendum Senya: Ali,Ali,Ali,Ali,Ali,Ali,Ali,. U feel better ? Remember-there was boxing before Ali...
More to the point klompton, why do you keep on having a problem with it??? Keep on keeping on Burt - genuine boxing historians are rightly completely puzzled and curious about this one. The only reason anyone could have any real issue is if they were unsuccessfully disguising obvious reverse racsism
I don't think anybody found anything new on this bout since last month, Bert. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=333282
K,let me make this perfectly clear. I have NEVER to my knowledge, ever posted a thread, titled "Did Dempsey take a dive ?". I have responded to other poster's threads, but not mine. Getting over an illness, I happened to respond to an article by Monte Cox,on this subject, this very morning, and I thought other posters would be interested. Apparently I was wrong in my assumption. But with this minor firestorm, I will continue to respond on this subject...This is a Forum after all.Cheers...
Thanks Pal. Where is Sigmund Freud, when we need him now ? There is a paranoia, when the subject of Jack Dempsey is mentioned. Like a bull charging a red cape, Dempsey's very name evokes the wrath of many posters, like no other fighter.Reverse racism,?, Could be. Were Dempsey black would his very name cause such indignation.? I think not. But Rocky, I am too old and sensible to be politically correct, and I still say Jack Dempsey AND Joe Louis were the two greatest heavyweights at their peaks. Thanks Rocky, now back to my aspirins. :hi:
M,I agree 100% with you. Marciano who I saw ringside ,was a human battering ram, with astounding stamina and heart....And Joe Louis was my favorite heavyweight of my times,in ability and demeanor....Cheers...
