Did Deontay Wilders right hand put the fear of God into Fury?

It's funny as everybody said Fury wasn't ready for Wilder in December, and that he needed a couple of more tune ups.

Fury went to Germany and beat Wlad. He went to LA and beat Wilder.

He will fight anyone, anytime ,any place.

 

The trouble with anyone, anytime, any place is that it includes Otto Wallin, at 5am, on BT Sport Box Office.

 

I've woke up with a hard on every morning for the last 30 odd years, the day I don't is the day I'll be concerned.

Hattonmad, it was meant in jest, you just came to mind when I thought of the Fury fan-club. You could have the same go at me for being in the Josh Taylor fan-club to be fair. Although it is easier getting behind somebody like Taylor. You must have sore fingers from how much you've typed to defend Tyson Fury for being a liar, hypocrite, boring, nandrolone using, coke using martyr!

 

I am interested to see how they spin it if it's true. His team are on record saying an American next. We know Miller, Martin, Washington and Bryan (names which were touted) are available to fight. All of which have a reasonable profile which was the reasoning for it being an American.

Fury should've beaten all comfortably, but still, at-least semi-respectable opposition compared to Wallin. I could understand why they'd make that fight before Wilder next year - this was the plan that his team have mapped out on record.

I don't believe it would've been that hard to agree terms with someone like Miller anyway. It's a great opportunity for him after the Joshua issue and as far as I understand, he'd be allowed to fight again by September so it can't be a negotiation issue.

Really disappointed with this as it stands. The only way I could accept it is if it's Wallin in September, Miller/Bryan/Washington/Martin in November/December and then Wilder in February/March.

 

A further completely impossible to understand element of this is that if it is true, Fury has not only wasted 2019 on nobodies, but they're nobodies who nobody has heard of. There's an understandable element of a loudmouth like Miller selling a fight. What did Schwarz do?

I find it all very strange, but I think the double standards when discussing Fury at the moment are laughable. On one hand he's elite pound for pound material and someone who people are here have legitimately suggested would be a nightmare for anyone, in any era, and is comfortably the best heavyweight in the world. On the other, fights against Schwarz and Wallin are excused (when they wouldn't be for Wilder or Joshua) because of his recent time off.

In fairness I don't see too many people on here or on Twitter giving him a pass for this. There's a couple saying they'd be fine with it IF Wilder is next.. but the vast majority I've seen are highly underwhelmed and feel a bit conned.

Looks like this is happening as all reputable news sources are now running with it - big shame if he sees out 2019 having fought just Schwartz and Wallin. It'll be PPV too which is a total joke.

 

I believe it probably has had some kind of effect, but only in regards to Wilder. You have to remember that Wilder has different power to many others, so Fury is not thinking just because maybe the biggest puncher put him down everyone else can. It might even give him more confidence he can take everyone's best shot.

As for Wilder, though, you can't really say it's scared Fury to fight punchers if he goes and fights the biggest puncher again. I think Fury had some uncertainty as to the claims of Wilder's power, though he was wary of it, and probably had it confirmed the hard way. This may make him fight differently in the rematch, who knows. It could make him more gun shy. It must have created some doubts as to his ability to avoid the RH all fight and take it. But then again, it might make him more switched on and he might draw confidence from the fact he got up. You can't really use normal person thinking with people like Fury though because the confidence people like this have is different, even delusional. It might not actually effect him that he almost got stopped, crazy as that sounds.

 

I think even the 'I'm OK if Wilder is next' line of thought is nonsensical as well. Why not fight someone who isn't a completely unknown nobody? If it's Wilder next why not have a meaningful fight in the interim?

Fury has had a weird career. For whatever reason once you get past Klitschko his greatest win is Dereck Chisora in a career that has been going for more than a decade.

Yeah, but absolutely anyone could do that. No need for Joshua to have signed for Pulev, Povetkin, Miller and so on. Just fight Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin because they're cheap.

Thing is, surely a better opponent equates to more money overall?
