    or was it wishfull thinking?

What if Floyd was willing to defend that strap against Berto?

You guys think Dibella wouldve put his man in there or went in another direction.

    It was wishful thinking.

Floyd would have vacated - allowing some people to say that Floyd was cherrypicking.....

DiBella would have been split over the fight..... had Berto got an ass whipping he would have been ****ed, had he done OK it would have enhanced.

IDK. Only reason Dibella would even consider this fight is because his man would have the size factor on his side, but I dont think he would've put his fighter against PBF.

He would have gone a different direction. Maybe a training injury or not enough money.

Dibella has been slowly and gradually bringing Berto along. For him to have seriously considered putting Berto in with Mayweather after fighting Trabant would have completely been inconsistent and outright contradictive to the strategy. I'm sure he would have of given the potential match up some thought mainly to go through the due process that all promoters and decision makers go through. I generally think that Dibella is well aware the Berto wasn't and still isn't quite ready for a fight against the likes of Mayweather.

Mayweather vs Berto would be great fight for Floyd to keep busy if he fights Pacquiao after.

Berto was the mandatory to Floyd when Floyd had the WBC strap...Dibella didn't wanna put Berto in at this time...Floyd wouldn't have taken the fight but if he had taken it than Floyd woulda schooled him and gave him a nice boxing lesson...BUT Berto may be ready in another year!

Dibella never would have thrown one of his biggest and youngest stars in the ring with PBF and risk ruining young Berto. No way. Much like Arum did with a young Cotto.

It would be a mildly interesting tune-up fight for PBF en route to a mega-showdown with the winner of Hatton-Pacquiao.

Who knows? DiBella is one promoter more so than most that seems willing to take gambles. He put Taylor in with Hopkins didn't he? Mayweather may be a different story, but we don't know the details behind the scenes. They've been feeding Berto the least athletic and/or light hitting guys they can get their hands on. Maybe Berto gets dropped in sparring every other day, maybe he's a KO or tactical domination waiting to happen. A promoter will cash a guy in for the right money if he's got holes in his boat. If it's inevitable his flaws will be capitalized on, better that happen against a world class foe for millions of dollars.

Like two other posters mentioned, it would be a good fight for PBF to return and to get ready for the Hatton vs Pac fight. It would not be a good fight for Berto though. Let's see how he looks with Collazo, but even if he wins, Collazo has been inactive for too long to jump into a title fight. A Berto vs Clottey would be somewhat interesting though or a Zab fight. I know, Zab does not deserve anymore title fights right now. It still would be an exciting fight.

Alot of people have been talking about Collazo's inactivy. He fought two times last year, the last of which was the last time Berto fought in late September. Why do you say he's been inactive?
