Did Dibella really think Berto had a shot against Mayweather?

I have not seen his last two fights, but I heard he was very sluggish. He hurt his hand badly with Mosley and I just feel he should have taken a fight with a top ten contender to see where he stands as far as taking on a champion. I am not saying he has no chance or even that he is going to lose. I just want him to come in at 100% so that we all can see an exciting fight and to also see where Berto stands.

I'm sure it's safe to say Collazo would have fought a top 10 guy if anyone was willing - but I agree. Collazo has fought waaay too many bums in his career. Especially late in his career. He's been a victim of his own dangerous qualities as a fighter. Promoters have a healthy respect for his talent.

This is going to be a very good fight from what I can tell, although I differ in my view from yourself in terms of Berto being "the champion." I know that's literally the case, but Collazo is the more experienced, more proven boxer. Berto fans should be very nervous about this.

Well, title holder. I did check-up on Collazo's record and have to give him credit. He did fight too many or any good opposition before fighting Rivera and he made the best of it. He had only one defeat prior to the Rivera fight. I just hope he comes in at title holder condition.

And only 3 weeks notice. ^

The prior defeat, BTW, was what Collazo has claimed was a bad stoppage by Jay Nady.

Putting Berto in against Mayweather would have been outright foolish. I have a hard time believing he felt Berto could really have a decent shot in that fight. Berto fights in too many spurts, and I see Mayweather just picking him off for the duration of the fight. This would be one of the easier fights for Floyd.

Time is defo on Berto's side... against a 32+ yr old Mayweather, anything can happen.
(At the time, PBF might have been too much movement for him, defo not a beating tho)

In '09, I say make it happen...

excuse me but Dibella did throw Jermain Taylor in the ring with Hopins after 23 fights ... Jermain was pretty raw.

Forbes was coming off the Oscar fight in which he handled himself pretty well. He obviously lost that fight but he didn't take many big shots from Oscar and managed to land clean shots of his own. The fact that he made a good fight for Oscar at a 150lbs catch weight legitimized himself as a worthy and strong test for young Berto.

Definately not, especially at 147. Forbes ain't a puncher at any class, and he landed alot of clean shots on Berto and even managed to shake Berto with a right hook inside during the 4th round, and then wobble Berto slightly with a counter left hook just after that. Berto just bulled Forbes around with his size and strength. It was a pointless excercise really.. They should have put Berto in with Ivan Calderon. That would have been even safer.

I don't care if Floyd was 40 yrs old ... Berto would never be able to beat him ... questionable defense ... questionable chin ... he's another knockout on Floyd's resume.

He didnt even belong in the same ring with Oscar, dude is a blown up lightweight. Even against Berto, he was only a good defensive test. Forbes shouldnt even be a recognized name on any WW's resume

Of coarse Forbes was a strong test for Berto. Maybe not strong from a literal standpoint but definitely strong in terms of presenting a challenging skill set; one in which Berto hasn't seen before.

And just because Berto has one of the million belts doesn't mean we should penalize him for not making his first title defense against an elite fighter. He's still a young prospect who happens to have a belt and steadily his competition has been intensifying. No reason to to break the strategy and put him in with a world beater just because he has a belt now. Based on Berto's previous competition Forbes was a strong test and Collazo will be another. If/when Berto gets past Collazo I think we'll start seeing him in with the bigger names.
