knock srl down or was it a trip/slip? help me out please and educate me a little about ekland was he any good? theres not much info out there on him.
I think the full fight is on YouTube, or at least it was there a few months back. Ecklund was a tough journeyman/maybe fringe contender who had good boxing skills and instincts but not much of a punch, as I remembber him. He's an interesting character for sure. I don't think SRL was hurt by Ecklund, BTW

Brutal Knockout by Ecklund: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP1x...DvjVQa1PpcFMC8RavNhHttgr2u39nekokqsqNXAjvHTo=
It looks like a trip to me, though Ecklund did give a very good account of himself in that fight, especially since Leonard was far more seasoned against quality foes. Dicky's style as a fighter was as unusual as his whole persona. The guy had a fine jab and good head movement, and his footwork was brilliantly unorthodox, almost reminding me of a welterweight Jersey Joe Walcott, although without the punch as someone else ahs said. But the booze and crack completely ruined him before he could turn into a real contender.
For some reason, that other link won't work. It is a brutal knockout by Ecklund of Chris Clarke's brother. It's on the same site as the Chris Clarke fight.
Dickie Eckland reminds me of a poor Mayweather Senior in some spots. SRL tripped, Eckland stepped over him and made his mark in history, nothing more.
