Ok, firstly I'd like to say that the DQ was definitely the right call and AA hitting Dirrell when he was down was a mean thing to do. However, Dirrell has fallen down without being knocked down more times in his last 2 fights than most fighters have in their entire careers. If you are going to make a habit of going down that often is it expected that the guy you are fighting may throw a punch at you on instinct when you are going down / are down, even though it will be an illegal blow? Whether it is actually part of Dirrell's gameplan to throw himself around to avoid punches I don't know, but he has done it a considerable amount the last 2 fights and in the heat of the moment it's possible that the other guy is going to throw a late shot. So, is Dirrell's occasional habit of going down to avoid punches the reason he has finally been clocked in such brutal fashion by AA? If AA hadn't done it, would it have happened the next time Dirrell faced a big puncher? :think
Your points are valid about Dirrell spending too much going down without being hit, but last nite it was a clear case of a slip. It happened twice in the same spot.
And with fighters who move laterally and shuffle for most of every 3 minute round, slips are going to happen - especially with all of these stupid ring ads...
Yeah, it's bound to happen to him sooner or later with his style. Maybe he'll think twice about running from now on? But yeah, the ring ads are pointless and dangerous.
