I cant put my finger on it...but I have a feeling that DK is semi responsible for the snowballing american heavyweight division... respond to this pathetic thread...
Don King is horrible, but he doesn't force American heavyweights to show up at fights overweight, to overestimate themselves, trashtalk and be ungracious in defeat.
:good, although fighting with him and knowing you'll get most of your money stolen is pretty unmotivating
You give King too much credit. The fact is that American heavy's are a extinct spiecies today.Eurotrash rules these days, hense the apathetic view of heavy's in America.
The NBA and the NFL has more to do with the lack of Americans among the top ranks of heavyweight boxing than anything Don King has done. The money in the professional ranks of pro basketball and pro football is so huge that it's natural that if you are a good athlete you would try to make your fortune there, rather than a high risk sport like boxing.
I don't think so. Not personally. He might have hired a Polish hitman for some. Conspiracy theorists believe this was Andrew Golota's true purpose.
The reason there are more eastern euros who are top heavies is because the sports that are most popular in eastern Europe tend to favor smaller, more athletic types, while most big, athletic Americans will play American Football instead. It's really as simple as that. It doesn't have as much to do with 'hunger' as most people make it out to be. One can say he helped lead to the downfall though, eventually. Protecting his fighters led to fewer big money matches, which reduced the financial incentive for people to go into boxing instead of other sports.
