Did Duran just have Leonards # that night, Or did Sugar just fight the wrong fight?

This is actually a pretty good summary of how it unfolded. Duran hit Leonard with a left in the 2nd round that not only hurt Leonard, it wobbled him. After that much of the fight was along the ropes. In the 3rd Duran used feints to once again get Leonard along the ropes and he started really working the body, so much so that Ferdie Pacheco said, "if Leonard doesn't get off the ropes he's going to get his ribs broken."

Now if the argument is that this was some kind of plan that SRL had, it's a pretty strange plan.

No, we've been over this. Leonard did not attempt to use an optimal amount of movement, even in Round 1, per his strategy.

Hey, you guys can believe the "my head was too cloudy to get on my bike" stuff if you want. Leonard is one of a few men in boxing whose statements generally mean nothing to me because I find him to be insincere and unreliable. But in all seriousness, I get why you find it persuasive--I just disagree.

    Excellent post.

Sums up what happened perfectly. As you say Leonard fought the best way he knew how, tried to ramp up the aggression due to Duran being the smaller guy, and was found badly wanting.

Now you are becoming a patronising pr!ck. If Leonard told anyone with a brain it was a lovely day, they would check for themselves by looking out the window. It is you that takes a selective approach to his utterances, and indeed his fighting strategy. However I simply don't believe even you are stupid enough to claim Leonard fought his previous 27 opponents using a strategy of fighting in spurts and getting on his bike for most of every round. If so how come 18 of those 27 were stopped or retired?

Then again, you are the one who claimed he ran from Hearns for the first 5 rounds, when the clip, commentators, and indeed the 3 official judges all gave him the 3rd round. So nothing surprises me once your imagination runs riot.

What the hell is the "optimal amount of movement" ?

He certainly moved around that round, often to avoid getting into exchanges with Duran, so what in your mind is "optimal"?

It is almost a religion to the freak Kurupt. His mission is to try to discredit Duran's win in Montreal, and cast him as no more than a bit part player in the Leonard show.

The officials weren't American, three foreign judges were imported. So much for that one.

I guess the Viruet approach of running in circles, and not even stopping to throw the odd arm punch.

Leonard used movement in the first fight with intent to win, but Duran appeared to figure him out by the end of the first round and was forcing him into exchanges in the ropes and getting him to bite on the feints.

Aren't you the sarcastic little arrogant one. Can't have a decent debate without going all childish and prat.

I'll tear into this one tomorrow night my time, and treat you with the respect you deserve.

Foxy, out of interest, do you also believe Duran-Benitez was as close as the judges had it?
