    Well done :good

SRL was an aggressive boxer. That's what made him so unique and one of the reasons he became so popular. He was no safety-first fighter who elicited yawns. He MADE things happen in there.

He fought HIS fight vs Duran and got beaten.

Neither. Leonard fought an exlent fight that night. He just came up short. Yes they fought Duran's fight. Yes Duran won a fight where neather boxer asked for or gave quarter.
Leonard showed in the rematch that Duran could not adapt, while he could.

    I agree with both paragraphs.

I would also add that I am not sure it was so unreasonable for Leonard to imagine he can win a brawl. He's the bigger, stronger guy by quite a bit, and he may have justifiably thought he was a bigger puncher and had a better chin (which I think was the case in absolute terms). Add those with the fact that Leonard had an edge on hand speed, why would he not think he can't win a shoot-out? He probably thought he'd land more often, and the harder shots, and Duran would be more shook up when he got hit.

What surprised him probably was that Duran turned out to be arguably the better technician, and this revelation is why I am not sure Leonard could have out-boxed Duran either in Montreal.

This I do not agree with: I had it further apart than the judges though the rounds were indeed close.

He fought the wrong fight. The right fight for Leonard was to stay on the outside like the 2nd fight. Move and run like a rabbit.

With all due respect, JG, street macho had little to do with it in the first fight. That is part of the myth created post facto by Leonard and Dundee.

Ray fought the fight he planned to fight and in the manner he and Angelo indicated they would, prior to the bout. They felt that Duran was beatable with their gameplan and that SRL was the stronger guy.
