Did Duran look scarier with or without the beard?

Duran didn’t need a beard to intimidate when he was beating up puny lightweights. It was only when he moved up in weight that he grew a beard for all his fights to try and look more scary but even then he stopped looking intimidating once clean cut looking Leonard humiliated him and made him quit in their rematch. Even British no-hopers like Kirkland Laing weren’t scared of him anymore from then on. Still had good wins after that against the likes of Moore and Barkley but I don’t think he ever scared anyone anymore, especially at the higher weights,by his looks alone,beard or no beard. The beard probably became more of a superstitious thing for him in his fights.

I thought his beard would give him good luck against Hearns

 

Hearns carefully styled goatee triumphant over Duran’s straggly unkempt beard.

 

Without the beard he looked like a mean, lean fighting machine. With the beard I thought he looked like a slightly out of shape journeyman.
