This post is bull****.
What they said is irrelevant, none of those 3 guys faced the boxers I mentioned.
Yes, they are bigger. It's very plausible that p4p, Shavers hit harder, but that's something entirely different.
Anyone that knocks out Norton had to be packing one hell of a punch!!!!
This is actually true. 3 of Norton's KO losses were to arguably the hardest hitters of all time and he was past his prime for at least 1-2 of those. It's less about Norton's chin and more about whose doing the punching.
Did he lift weights his later career? I know he played American Football and was likely did all the Strength and Conditioning that was available and popular at the time with exercises like power cleans , bench presses and squats. He did claim he accrued most of his natural strength from picking up and throwing bales of hay and that's what he attributed to his strength as well as chopping wood like most of the other heavyweights.
So what hall of fame boxers said is irrelevant, but your opinion is not. Gotcha!
I remember seeing an interview where he talked about it, and I believe it's somewhere in his autobiography. But I can't find it. Sorry.
Holy cow, imagine his legacy if he'd KO'd both Ali and Holmes.
Has anyone who fought him EVER listed anyone else as the hardest hitter they fought? It seems universal that every guy he fought says that.
edit: Quarry wasn't impressed by his power. But I don't know that he ever hit Quarry with a good shot, since Quarry steamrolled him.
Shavers got one good right hand in I recall - Quarry didn’t remember and/or wasn’t aware of it and had to be shown the film of the fight for proof.
What type of punch was 28 yo Larry packing over 15 rounds vs an old, 34 yo Norton? Norton’s chin belongs on Mt. Rushmore!!!
That’s a huge if. Even Earnie said both Ali and Holmes were the toughest mofos he ever faced. I wonder how poor Earnie felt when he saw Larry peel himself back up from the canvas in rd 7? I’d be like, “that’s it, that’s all I’ve got” - then drop tools and climb out of the ring
I'll believe my good buddy Randall Tex Cobb he said " Every punch Earnie threw shook him to the core. no one else ever hurt him like Earnie
The presenter and Muhammad Ali talk in the show:
- Who is the strongest man?
- Strongest man?
- Earnie Shavers.
- Earnie Shavers?
- Yea man.
