Great post! I too agree that the most important deciding factors are Morales's win over Junior Jones and Pacquiao, and Barrera's two wins over Morales as to who is better. I also take into account Barrera's long career and his win over Hamed, and the fact that he fought Marquez. I chose tied on the poll. Both boxers are great, let's leave it at that.

You can't get more neck and neck than MAB and EM in the ratings game. I've seen great arguments both ways. A win over Jose Alfaro isn't going to cut for EM it if you've got them even or a tiny edge to MAB. He'll have to beat somebody of actual significance.

These two could have fought 10 times with Morales getting 6 wins, and Barrera 4. The arguments could rage on ad infinitum, but instead of yakking about who won what round, all that crap about whose "ring generalship" was the smartest, take it ALL the way back to basics...

Boxing is simply sanitised street-brawling, with ropes, rings, gloves, shields, referees and onlookers with plastic containers of beer, not glass, to safeguard the fighter's health and maximise his career length. In a street brawl, hitting the deck prostate is the end of the fight.

Morales punched Barrera flat onto his back once, in their 36 rounds boxed. MAB cannot make the same claim. Erik is, inescapably, the superior combatant. Nobody, but NOBODY, is more keenly aware of this than Barrera.

Since when does beating Alfaro for a meaningless belt moves someone up in the all time rankings?

This is reaching of the highest order.

It definitly does not, anyone saying Morales has the edge on Barrera should base it on what they achieved during their primes.

Unless Morales has one big win left in him.

It would literally move him up one spot into 4th for me. That's all.

Sober up man. Morales's latest "win" was a meaningless small hall training bout against a ****ing traffic warden. It has absolutely zero impact on his or anyone elses' ATG standing.

Morales is inescapably the superior fighter because he was able to knock Barrera down with a body shot? No further explanation needed as to why that statement is ludicrous, but besides that, the knockdown really came as a result of Morales and Marco's foots clipping one another. One of Marco's great strengths was his balance, and he'd taken a lot harder shots to the body in his career than that one delivered in the return bout. The instant replay confirms the situation to me. Jay Nady was correct.

I prefer to come to conclusions based on a whole career rather than one freak occurrence, and for me, Barrera was more well rounded, and his superiority was never best demonstrated than when he was able to defeat his rival not once, but twice.

I have Morales slightly ahead, just by a hair. Last Saturdays fight has nothing to do with it.
