It was stated on another thread that Firpo turned down 2 offers to fight Greb for a substantial purse. What was the offer, when and where and who was the promoter? Do you think it would have been a good match for Greb? Firpo was wild with his punches and just threw them, he didnt set himself to punch which was one of Greb's strengths, not letting the his opponents get set. IMO it would have been a dangerous fight for Greb cos even a lucky punch could land and with Firpo power that one could be enough. I know that Greb beat all the HW's he fought but none was as reckless as Firpo. Greb's speed alone would not be enough and with no power to back it up, Greb would have had a difficult time with the clumsy Firpo.

Firpo was a big deal. People like to discredit him now as a hype job but he drew 70,000 crowds before he fought Dempsey.

Firpo was as strong and courageous as any fighter who ever entered the ring. It was well understood at that time that he had only a rudimentary understanding of the finer parts of the game. No need to debate this. At 165 pounds Greb vs the ko punching Firpo would be at a huge disadvantage. Any one single blow at any time would end the bout. Greb would need a perfect night to get through 12-15 rounds without getting clipped.

Firpo was strong for even Dempsey and obviously had very heavy hands. Dempsey put Firpo down a few times before he finally went down too. I just can't see what Greb brings to the table that would stop Firpo from walking through him and landing that overhand right. Greb never beat any top heavyweights either. Sure there are rumors about his sparring with Dempsey but if you watch Dempsey spar bantamweights he isn't dominating in those sparring sessions either. I don't think there is any doubt that Dempsey would knockout the fighters he sparred.

Then again Greb has speed on his side so if he can avoid Firpo's right like the plague he could win a decision.

Lol, look at all of you clowns fumbling around in the dark for an excuse to worship your hero. You guys are always pretending to be experts, instead of asking for someone else to do your research why dont you do it. Oh wait, you wouldnt know the first thing about research. To you research begins and ends with the first paragraph you read on the internet that agrees with you or conforms to your ideas. Booorrrrring.

Aaaah da kr apper reappears, again what you might've missed you made a statement on another thread that Firpo was offered a substantial purse to fight Greb and he went in another direction. As always you find an excuse not to answer the question posed by the thread instead you offer your bull droppings rants. You made an unsubstantiated claim that Firpo was offered a fight with Greb, Greb didnt fight Firpo because Firpo ran in the other direction on two occasions when a bonafide offer was placed in front of him.", if you make a statement you should back it up, dont you think? The implication is that Firpo "RAN" from Greb. You made the statement, now back it up is all I am asking.

Firpo is the worst filmed heavyweight challenger. Absolutely dreadful to watch.

Then why put yourself through that much stress if it was so darn dreadful? Suggestion get yourself a bottle, can or whatever of your choice and answer or dont the question posed by the thread. The thread asked about the two offers that Firpo RAN from to fight Greb.

I was responding to comment on this thread. Things do move tangentially on these discussions at times.... or is that not now allowed? Or are you a moderator now?

As always staying on task is difficult for you, so the question still remains: "
Did Firpo turn down 2 offers to fight Greb for a substantial purse, why?"
Why not try answering that, either you can or cant answer it, that's all. If you want to start a thread on the merits of Firpo as a HW contender do so this one is about Firpo "running" from Greb.

Maybe da kr apper cant back it up with anything that makes sense. If anything I would think Greb might have said Firpo is too big and I am only a MW. I cant believe that Firpo RAN from fighting Greb.
