Fitz visited the Coach &Horses pub at Stourbridge Park Willesdon UK where he watched Iron Hague train for his up coming fight with Sam Langford but his main reason for being there was to meet 78years old a Mace again/
Fitz was at a benefit for Mace in May 1909 at The Arena, Villiers Street London he sparred with Joe Jeannette and then made a horseshoe which was auctioned raising £25 then $ 125.
Fitz used Jeannette as a sparring partner for his fight with Jack Johnson.Source The Fighting Blacksmith by Gilbert Odd ,having read this book I should have remembered these facts but I'm getting old!

    Well remembered!

Seems to be some difference of opinion as to which of them had the best of it.

Couple of points, Fitz during his career was known as a physical freak, the upper body of a strong heavyweight with a lightweights legs.
As for the Fitz sparring v Jeannette in 1909 in England it appears they were photographed together with Mitchell but I don't think they actually sparred one another.

Yeah and I cant be sure either but it appears that when Fitz sparred Sunshine and Joe went with Doyle, a photograper actually took a snap of Fitz, Joe and Mitchell at the Mace exhibition. The Sporting Life of May 26 is my source.

I hear it was on the same night Ortiz sparred James J Jefferies it's probably why their wasn't much coverage on those two no names you mentioned.

It's very possible Odd saw the photo and made 2+2 into 5.

And that is because he did not research European papers, Fitz was mostly based in two areas as a prize fighter. Yes, they did spar and I have seen the photo of the fighting.

No, that is the date they were performing at “Jem Mace's Monster Benefit” in Charing Cross, London.

I'm guessing the photo you refer to is the posed one with Charlie Mitchell stood between them, which is from Mace's benefit night.
