At the end of the night, the ball is in the fighters court.. Ricky Hatton has poor fundamentals, and he definitely could use some shaping up in that department, but I don't think Mayweather Snr and Hatton were good match for each other stylisticly. Hatton by nature, is not a defensive fighter, so teaching him to be defensive goes against everything that he is..

I think Hatton would have benefited more from a Barrera-esque transformation

Floyd Sr can only train a fighter one way. A good trainer takes an opponents assets and improves them. He was trying to turn Hatton into a slick boxer. You can't just change a guys style in a couple of months.

You know, Hatton is an excellent fighter in his own right but I can't see him matching up well against prime world class opposition( no disrespect towards his victory over Kostya ). I will admit that I am biased and prefer the fundamental boxers to the maulers, though

In my humble opinion, neither forward nor backwards, I think he tried to add a defensive game to Hattons arsenal which didnt suit a fighter best at coming forward, in the end he couldn't fight his natural fight (and the ref didnt help either)

    FM-Sr did'nt even know that Pacquiao was a southpaw:lol:

But in his defence he did tell Hatton "Keep yer hands up":yep Sr soon realised that all Hatton wanted was what he wanted to here & "Have a few laughs along the way".......Same move everytime:smoke

Hatton didnt listen or wasnt prepared to adjust to what his trainer was trying to tell him. He went into the ring with Pacman doing his own thing and paid the price badly!!

I think he improved Hatton, but for some reason he reverted back to his usual fighting style with more nerves mixed in, which meant less defense. It was a very bad performance on Hattons part, and you cant blame Mayweather Sr he was telling him between rounds that he was fighting stupid and Ricky just didnt hear anything.

Of course he took him backwards. Hatton suffered easily the worst and most humiliating defeat of his career with two training camps under him.

Hatton looked horribly sloppy, and Floyd Sr didn't improve him in any way in that fight. And Ricky believing Floyd Sr's bull**** on how he was going to walk through Pac didn't help. You're supposed to prepare you're fighter physically and mentally for a hard fight.

You have to question Floyd's professionalism.

How many champions has Floyd Sr actually brought up?

If he never had Floyd Jr, who's a naturally gifted fighter anyway and left him for his uncle, would anyone be calling him a great trainer today?

And the whoring out of his services to elite fighters hasn't been very impressive aswell.

DLH also was a more dynamic fighter before Floyd Sr tinkered with his style and made him right hand happy, which was his weakest punch and made him less effective.

All that **** Floyd Sr likes to spew about him being the greatest is much like everything else he says, nothing but hot air.

He was a slow brawler with a weak chin. Coming forward with your chin exposed may work against B and C class fighters, but for boxers like Mayweather and Pacquio thats just too easy.

Mayweather Snr tried to add more to his fight, but you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Anyway its not like he listened to him in any of his fights, or it changed the outcome of any of them.
