if he had then he would have lost, even with the gifts he was so used to receiving. still, he was a great boxer just a bit full of himself.

not to disparage floyd. he actually has a good claim to be the best (in the last couple decades). its just nearly impossible to win consistently in a sport as damaging as boxing when you are seeking the greatest challenges available. so floyd thought, hey, let me stack the odds in my favor, and make myself a little home here in the vegas where I can develop a style which makes for great controversy and easy to see the 12th and let the judges do their part. That is something no one will be able to replicate in many decades I think.

Golovkin probably had the best chance to do this in his prime due to his KO style with a great chin, but he had everyone pissing their pants and now we will never find out. he probably would have had a shorter career though if he ever had to fight wars.

Of course Barrera was all hype, no substance. Even though he beat Naseem Hamed but that doesn't matter, Hamed was a noname bum obviously. #dummylogic

So let me get this straight... Floyd beat Jmm, but it doesn't count because he made him go up two weight classes... Isn't this the same Marquez that SLEPT Pacquiao in the same weight class (147)? Asking for a friend

Marquez slept him because he was roided to the gills. What 40 year old has the worst acne of their life at 40? And he was working with a known roid man.

DLH was old, Pac was never competition for him so there was no ATG for him to fight sadly.

    I hate questions like this.

    1. How many ATGs are active AND in their prime at any given time? An ATG is a generational talent. Prime is usually a small window - 5-6 years at most. How many prime ATGs are active right now, for example?

    2. What are the odds that there are two or more of them who are both prime, both acknowledged to be ATGs, and both in or around the same weight class?

    3. ATGs tend to be ATGs for a reason - they rarely lose in their prime. If ANY of the ATG candidates who are active and at/near their prime today - Crawford, Lomachenko, Ward, GGG or Canelo - were to lose their next fight, how many of them would we even say were ATGs after that? More likely we would say, "____ was never an ATG because they lost during their prime." Or, in the case of 30+ fighters like Ward or GGG, retroactively declare the fight before their loss to be the end of their prime and therefore take credit away from the winning fighter.

Basically, the first ATG would have to beat the second ATG, and then the losing ATG would have to continue to have a dominant run for the rest of their career. It's a combination of factors that you have to be incredibly lucky to replicate.

I could never knock a great fighter for not happening upon that sort of circumstance.

Hell, to this day, people argue that even within the gold standard of ATG vs. ATG tournaments that Hagler was post-prime against Leonard, Leonard was pre-prime vs. Duran in the first fight, Duran was too fat vs. Leonard in the rematch, Hearns was pre-prime vs. Leonard in the first fight, Duran was out of his weight class AND post-prime vs. Hearns, etc.

I wouldn't bother trying to answer this thread. It's a deathtrap.

Barrera gets hyped up because every time his critics thought he was done he turned around and upset the betting favorite.
