It's always looked to me that he got up before the ref reached 10. he didn't complain though. Your thoughts?

    He beat the count.

If you count the seconds from the moment his glove touched the canvas and when he got up it took longer than 10 secs.
But he did beat the count if I remember correctly

    He was done anyway

    Foreman never contested the count.
He has always claimed he was drugged by his trainer.

He beat he count but it'd have been pointless for the fight to go on anyway. He was exhausted and Ali still had plenty left in the tank. Foreman would've been stopped within the next round or two had the fight been allowed to continue.

Following the commentary he got up at 9 but the ref waved it off which was a wise thing to do anyway Foreman was not going to win.

Foreman wasn't going to win? Why because you say so? Ali was just as tired as Foreman.
Foreman didn't contest the count? Probably because he was shocked to have went down against somebody like Ali.

Ali is a sharp, sharp puncher when he has a man this much in trouble. Just look at what he did to Lyle to see the end of this match. He could have knocked Foreman down a dozen times if need be.

From memory, Ali wasn't in great shape at the end either. Maybe you're right. I haven't put a stop watch on it, but I'm sure Foreman got up in time. It always struck me that neither he nor his corner protested. I think he was psychologically beaten at that point anyway.

He definitely did. An exhausted Foreman got up, while his idol Liston rolled around and tried his best to not get up.

He was just a beaten man physically and mentally. He expended an insane amount of energy loading up bombs on Ali only to be countered silly and hear "That all you got" getting whispered in his ear. He wasn't going to get up, get a second wind, do a 180 on his gameplan and outbox Ali for the rest of the fight cos he sure as hell wasn't going to knock him out.

Liston got up before the count began.

of course he did beat the count. this fight was very suspect to me, and no rematch? ali fought rematches with frazier,patterson,liston,norton,... but not with foreman? i am pretty sure that foreman would have beaten ali in 1976-77

Foreman says that Ali repeatedly refused a rematch unless Foreman hired Dick Saddler as his trainer for the match.

Saddler is the trainer Foreman fired after Zaire claiming he had drugged him before the bout.

I always thought he beat the count too. It looks like the ref just pointed him back to his corner like he would at the end of a round. Ali's people all jumped into the ring and started a wild celebration before the ref even made any kind of signal. Ali was toying with him by this point, but I always found it a little strange

Foreman claimed the ropes were loose...
