Did Foreman fight his best fight against Ali?

Ali v liston 2 has been proven to be rigged !

 

No. But Ali fought his best fight against Foreman.

I think that's the most impressive win in all of boxing.

 

I think it's fair to argue the conditions preceding and during the fight were more to Foreman's detriment in comparison to Ali.
If I could go back in a time machine and change the venue to Vegas and bet either at evens I back Foreman and hope it was shenanigans in the lead up along with the humidity on fight night which messed him up mentally and made him play right into Ali's hands. Ali was mega tough but Foreman methodically hunting and landing would take its toll eventually and I like him to bust Ali's KO cherry under more conventional circumstances.

I may well be wrong though and Ali's legendary win is the best evidence we will ever have of how Ali/Foreman goes.

One thing I am almost 100% sure of is that both Ali and Foreman were capable of winning the night they met, neither is going anything like 100/100 against the other if we could somehow accurately simulate it.

 

Everyone is talking here as though Foreman was clearly the more impressive fighter or that he was winning the fight before he gassed and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Ali beat the **** out of Foreman throughout that fight, he clearly outboxed him. He was on the way to a wide UD.

The only way Foreman beats Ali is via come-from-behind KO. I'm not saying that's impossible but with Ali's chin it would be a rarity.

You might be able to knock Ali down. But you ain't knocking him out...

 

He fought his literal WORST fight.

He barely landed a single punch.

He lost every round. Maybe one of them was close.

 

Let me clarify...

He fought his WORST fight.

But he was at his peak form. The prime of his career.

 

Foreman was in his prime, but didn't fight a smart fight. He was beat tactically and probably mentally as well.

As soon as Ali went to the ropes in the second, Foreman was eating clean shots to the face. Ali was landing the cleaner shots to the head all night, in every round. Foreman landed some punishing body shots, and some good shots to the head, but I would give Foreman only a round, maybe 2, going into the 8th.

 

Foremen blew it when he threw too many punches on Ali's rope-a-dope..................he ran out of gas..................

 

Foreman was in his prime but fought a dumb fight.

Only in his comeback had he learnt to pace himself, which is a critical thing to learn.

Now maybe Ali still wins even against a smarter Foreman but i bet Foreman could of made it a far closer fight.

 

he relied too much on power. Similar to Thomas Hearns when he fought Ray, but Hearns was always more versatile than Foreman which is why Tommy went 14 and was winning and Foreman was knocked out in 7.. But both guys thought they could always rely on power..

 

Ali beat Foreman by way of KO was one of the biggest upsets in the history of boxing.
Ali had a great game plan in that fight though. It called "rope a dope."

 

He used the rope to help him beating Foreman by studying the tape Foreman v.s. Peralta. That fight helped Ali a lot to come out with that great game plan.

 

Physically Foreman was at 100%, it was his gameplan that was lacking.
