Did Foreman have the same hand speed in his 40`s that he had in his 20`s?

Ruiz is fat and has faster hands than Foreman had in his 20`s.

His hands were much quicker than his feet?

Speaking of old heavyweights with speed, here’s Mike Tyson at 52:

Speed was never a big part of George's armoury. Efficiency and clever manipulation of an opponent as well as crushing power were what he was always really about. I wouldn't say he was terribly quick in either of his careers.
I do take your point about the 1-2 he did Moorer with though. It was probably the sharpness of that combination that surprised Michael.

Of course. He was 35 lbs heavier and 11 years older. That is when you reach peak physical form.

I never thought Tyson was physically "shot" after he got out of jail, he just didn't have any interest in boxing. He didn't want to train and he didn't want to fight. The desire was gone.

I think that George Foreman in the 1970's was much faster, he smothered you with his powerful bombs especially if you were hurt, Joe Frazier and Ken Norton. When he returned in the late 1980's, he was ponderous and slow. He was also a bit pudgy and had no hair. When he returned, he was a man of the bible, nothing wrong with that, but in some of his fights, he lacked the killer instinct that we were used to seeing in his first reign as champion. And he was now a celebrity, selling the grills.

When you look back at ‘fat’ George and compare him to the likes of Whyte and Chisora his appearance and conditioning puts them to shame

Can I get an Amen on this. It amazing how many heavyweights today would be 20-50 lbs lighter if they were in what was once called " fighting shape", Or prime conditioned. The "Size Kings" make the assumption " Bigger is Better", but not if that bigger is just fat, or in some cases too much muscle, which in both cases usually lead to endurance issues.

Seriously, Foreman never had slow handspeed per se.
He just tended to throw long looping punches a lot of the time. The hands travelled reasonably fast but he took the long route round.
And, yes, that is evident when he shortens them up.
He was quicker in his 20s, of course.
