Someone on another thread started that muscles don`t add up to more power and compared Bowe to Bruno to prove his point, but I feel Bruno had more power than Bowe, but which fighter really did hit harder? I will also add than Bowe was the better finisher cause he threw punches in bunches when he had a fighter in trouble. Bruno`s record: Total fights 45 Wins 40 Wins by KO 38 Losses 5
Bruno almost knocked out Tyson and Lewis. Had them Both hurt at points in the fight. I’d say he had a lot of power. U fortunately Bowe didn’t face either man so we can’t really gauge against the best.
Bruno had more power but didn't have the skill to land his best punches against the best. Although against McCall, he hurt McCall early and put him in a shell.
No, Bruno was clearly much heavier-handed than Bowe. The difference is that Bowe was able to land much cleaner and with more regularity against top opposition. Bowe had more snap on his shots to boot. Bruno's heavy hands only worked on guy he could land on properly.
He did hurt Smith a couple of times but his chin let him down, he also hurt Lewis but that was a cagey jabbing contest, he threw too many punches Spoon, he punched harder when he loaded up, he also hurt Tyson.
He hurt Lewis and Tyson but neither man looked on the brink of being knoced out, he caught Lewis with a good right haand and Lewis wobbled but quickly recovered, the shot that Lewis hurt Bruno with in their final round was a better shot.
Bruno did hit harder than Bowe in my opinion. Bowe faced far less durable opponents and less quality opponents in general. He rarely took guys out with one shot and tended to lump guys up with his great infighting ability. A 6'5 230-240 guy shouldn't need to swarm up close but that's usually how he scored his KO's/stoppages. Bruno was very heavy handed and could bludgeon guys and his titanic bodybuilder physique complimented his style. The Problem with Bruno is that not only was he not particularly durable, he gassed pretty easily abd was a nervous wreck at times. Thus if he couldn't take a guy out early he fought with a very cautious traditional boxer puncher style. A swarmer is usually going to look more impressive than a cautious boxer puncher. The reality is Bruno's KO record speaks got itself, and he has his fair share of brutal clean early round KO's.
Yes, I think he did have an harder shot, but that apart from courage, was the main weapon in his box. Bowe had less of a punch but a lot of other attributes that place him above him.
