There's nothing wrong with using your chin as a defence mechanism!

Not sure about that....! It's possible to pick holes in a lot of Calzaghes competiton if so inclined (i'm not)

    Eubank - Faded, Flu
    Hopkins - old
    Jones - see Hopkins
    Bika - unproven / basic
    Lacy - basic / overrated
    Kessler - Hand trouble

    etc

When you look at all of these fighters as a whole picture however, it's ludicrous to me to think that they all had major defects. Thats would make Calzgahe the luckiest cherry picker ever. I think Calzaghe beat some greats and deserves all the acclaim he gets.

I agree. Not when you tuck it in and make fighters pay for hitting it by strong effective counter punching. :p

Especially if your chin is granite. It's the Froch way and it's stood the test so far.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not and never have tried to sell Froch as a defensive master. Boxing is entertainment (at least to me) first and foremost and Frochs vulnerability and his huge offensive arsenal is what makes him entertaining. I'm a froch fan because I get value for money.

There are always a few exceptions. I'll give you an example of what I was tryna say. Taken from another thread, Lionel Rose posted the following:

    "Let's start with Segundo Mercando.
Beaten just once in 21, going into his first fight with BHop; he drew, (decking the self-styled 'Executioner' twice,) then got battered in the return, drawing once and losing 9 in his last 11 bouts.(Final tally: 19-10-2)
Surely as shocking a deterioration as any 'world' level fighter, of any era, ever!

Yes... I believe Taylor was at his best.
