Fury is one of the best of the era, and Wilder was a guy who was capable of giving him issues. Made for great fights. think of Ali and Norton. Norton was definitely not as great as Ali, but damn was he able to give Ali all kinds of issues.
Timelines are important in Boxing for the simple fact time waits for nobody.Back in 2018 Joshua was top of the Division with good wins over Parker and Povetkin,Wilder meanwhile was sitting immediately below him with a win over Ortiz and then a controversial draw with Fury who was on the comeback trail. Like mentioned Fury fought Wilder to the controversial draw and six months after there fight in 2019 Joshua quit in an upset loss to Ruiz in his first fight outside the UK,this loss changed the Heavyweight landscape. During 2019 Wilder blasted out Breazeale and Ortiz so was rightly seen as the top dog whilst during 2019 Fury beat Shwarz and Wallin,Joshua himself rematched Ruiz in late 2019 and won.Come 2020 and Fury beats Wilder and Joshua beat Pulev, then comes 2021,Fury beats Wilder once more in there trilogy fight and Joshua loses twice to Usyk. Wilder Fury and Joshua are clearly not the fighters they once were with Fury looking poor against Ngannou then losing to Usyk,Joshua looked poor against Franklin and Helenius in his fights after the two Usyk defeats and Wilder looked poor against Parker and then looked totally shot against Zhang. 6 years ago was when this three way rivalry started and they all played there part yet we have this thread actually asking if Fury and Wilder conned the public !
Some even argue Norton won all three, with others saying Norton won 1 and 3 and at least drawing in the second fight,Ali also got a gift over Young .
If the original post is referring to ranking, I would agree with you. But something tells me they’re referring to ability. I.e. what happens if Wilder steps in with Zhang 2020? Or Parker etc. I’d agree that Fury was arguably the best, but I’m firmly in the camp that while Wilder’s ranking may have had him flying high, if he stepped up to world level guys beyond Fury, he gets exposed at any point in his career.
It’s this simple a lot of these people aren’t boxing fans but fans of certain fighters and if it’s not their favorite they **** on the other fighter. Don’t try to figure it out save your mental health.
Also Fury suffered knockdowns and Wilder got beat down so they probably lost something along the way.
Hard to say, but Fury was seen as linear champ, the man to beat and Wilder was seen as the killer. Had to happen. And their fights were good.
Boxing fans can be so annoying. You guys will literally jump on whatver the current bandwagon is, going from hes the best to hes overrated after 1 fight. Fury and Wilder were the best heavyweights at the time when they had the trilogy. Just because Fury lost to one of the best fighters ever Usyk doesnt mean he was a pretender. Just because Spence lost to Crawford the #2 or #1 p4p fighter in the world doesnt mean hes trash. Some of you guys are idiots im sorry.
If AJ was playing it safe what was Wilder doing up until his cherry pick of Fury went wrong ??? I mean even Fury played it safe apart from the Wlad fight what other risks did he take the answer is zero then he got Wilder because Wilders team was of the opinion Fury was too far gone and Wilder was never a big risk for any top Heavyweight he only ever had a punchers chance as seen now his is getting easily beat by any decent opponent then Fury decided to big up Wilder like he was some all time great and the causal fans ate it up and built Wilder into somthing he never was to overinflated both him and Wilder
Fury also made out Wilder was some all time great which he was never even close to being and fans ate it up
Wilder was never in the discussion for being the best who did he beat to be put in that bracket? At least Fucy beat WK. Wilder was gifted a title then he was fed fake defence after fake defence against nobody's until his team thought Fury was easy pickings
