He "retired" for roughly 24 hours ... that time. The WBC caught on early. The current people running Ring Magazine showed how little they understand the situation ... that time.

I've been saying this since he "retired" after the Wlad fight.

Tyson Fury is born to fight. That's all he can do. He'll get mad and quit. He'll say he's had enough. He'll insist he's bored. He'll retire. And he'll retire again. And he'll retire again. He'll still be retiring and changing his mind and fighting well into his late 40s. His kids will be grown. His wife will leave him and take most of his money. And he'll still be putting on the trunks calling out "dossers" in well into the late 2030s. He's like Holyfield, he can't give it up.

It's set in stone. Just watch, listen, laugh, cheer, boo, shake your head, complain and enjoy the ride.

I hate the Ngannou fight, and most boxing fans seem to as well.

One thing that can't be denied however is that however big of a star you think Fury is now, he will be a FAR bigger star when he dismantles and stops Ngannou. The entire MMA world will watch this fight, as will most boxing fans. This will only help him in the negotiations for Usyk, and as sad as it is.

That is the sad truth. Those of us who didn't view "fights" like Mayweather v McGreggor and Fury v Chisora 3 were a drop in the ocean.

The thing is, the hardcore MMA fans likewise must know this is similarly not a good fight for them as it will also reflect badly on their sport. Ngannou needs the payday so he will have to bow down to Fury's conditions. This will just be an artificial exercise in demonstrating the dominance of boxers over MMA fighters under [hybrid-]boxing rules. This time over MMA's heavyweight champion in recess. Some may point to Jon Jones, but many still recognize Ngannou.

They aren't really targeting MMA and boxing fans with this event. From what I have seen online it actually is pissing off both groups. It's not for us. It's for the same kind of casual fans who don't really watch soccer, but always tune in for the champions league final or the world cup.

It's for their pockets at the expense of both the fans and the respective sports.

How much time did AJ/ Eddie need?
Since it was a ridiculous AND needlessly short amount of time, then they must have needed about THIRTY effin days. :shakehead:
Which I think is a ridiculous AND needlessly long amount of time.

I get it, many here are upset Fury-Usyk hasn't been signed & delivered. I am too, and don't care for some of these cross combat sports Fury gets involved with. However, there's too much dumping of Fury here. There's literally 100s of threads blaming Fury for the state of the HW division to the Covid scamdemic to the war in Eastern Europe to high inflation (rising cost of living). Enough already.

Fury & his team are hardly the only problem in the HW div. Yesterday saw the AJ-Whyte presser. Listening to Eddie you'd think AJ & Whyte are both at or below 30 y/o and each have 1, maybe 2 losses each. They combine for 6 losses, of which 4 are T/KOs. Top promoters are world class BS artists, that's for sure.

"Retire" in Fury speak is usually code word for PED cycling

In Fury's book 'Gloves Off' he sounded very intent on retiring after the Whyte fight.

He's about to turn 35. It's getting to the stage where for all we know it's post-prime Fury.
He may be messing around to cover for that ... and each 6 months that goes by make it more and more
likely he's not going to be up to fighting anyone who's near the top and at their peak.

Hearn and AJ had plenty of time to sign the contract. Do people think they have full time jobs then have to come home and play with the kids, do the chores, fix the dishwasher and then only when all that is done can they get on with their boxing hobby and work out these contracts?
They had over a week with a huge team to deal with one contract, in an age of video calls.
For a fight that big they could devote at least 8 hours a day to it.
It was obvious they were stalling and wanted too much control the media/money component.

Honestly, if dozens of people working full time on the most lucrative fight can't get problems sorted in 80 hours, they don't want it. And that's just 8 hour days. They could obvious do a bit of overtime on their paychecks.

If you told Hearn and Matchroom they have have 2 days to deliver a tender for complete control of sport on Saudi's new government-funded broadcaster, they would have everyone working overtime and get it finished.
