George is extremely generous. He would have been young during the Liston meanderings so it's probable.

Jerry Quarry and I would say Larry Holmes during his second career. George was a smart manager.

Foreman basically was saying they avoided Quarry because of that counterpunching style.

I'm not saying he didn't, but I personally don't believe it. A lot of fights do t happen due to money, injury, sickness, and a slew of other conflicts. It could have been much more than ducking.

Agree 100% on that one. He didn't look or act like a man with the slightest ounce of fear there. He looked like a man showing up to destroy a rival and enjoy doing so. Then the moment the bell rang, he proceeded to do exactly that. You don't come out like that against someone you're afraid of.

I don’t know if there’s any grounds for saying he ducked Holmes in the 70s. He retired in 1977 after losing to Jimmy young at which point Holmes was a rising contender…. Later on in the 90s. Holmes challenged him and Foreman never responded. But given their age I don’t think it really mattered.

as has been pointed out here, that isn't true. they actually had an old man battle scheduled, but they had a garbage promoter who couldn't come up with the money. this is one case where I wish Don King had been involved. say whatever you want about King, the man always came up with the money to make his fights happen.

Regardless. I don’t think there’s much grounds for saying foreman ducked Holmes

George Foreman would've brutalized Jerry Quarry. Just brutalized him.
