No. Nor am I saying that Young of 1975 would beat Foreman of 1975. What I am saying is, given the reality of what took place it isn't sensible to give either Douglas or Young no chance to beat their men.

For the most part yes. Also, Foreman's power seemed to be DOA in this match.

I still don't get why Foreman didn't try to lure Ali into the middle of the ring if he continually saw how the 'rope a dope' Ali was using was working against him.

Sure. He was drugged by Muhammad's pinpoint punching. Seriously though,I've always found the 'Foreman was doped' theory ridiculous. He looked sharp enough early on.

Great punch resistance, heart and defence will do that to most fighters with power.

Let's not forget Ali's internal injuries from that body beating though.

For the most part yes. However, he was really hurting Ali with his left jab during the middle rounds but Ali bluffed him out of jabbing by calling him a sissy and aggravating George to the point where he started winging wild punches and missing. Ali really did a psyche job on him. George 20 years later said he would have just jabbed him and won a UD instead of winging wild punches.

Foreman started the fight throwing wild and missing. His tactic of pushing his opponent was missing. If was very different than the Frazier and Norton fights, which were controlled demolitions with pin-point combination punching. Something was definitely missing in Foreman.

Nothing was missing, just different opponents. Watch Ali's movement in the first, his timing and accuracy of both his leads and counters, and compare that to Norton and Frazier. It's a world of difference. By the way, Norton - as hunched up and intimitated that he was - was doing quite well until he got caught. It's not like he was steamrolled from the opening bell. And Ali wouldn't leave himself open for a shot like Norton did when he was caught.

Foreman tried to push Ali quite a few times if memory serves. He got hit. This is because he was trying to push a man who was either a) moving away from him fast or b) stationary. To say he should have pushed him more is folly. Frazier was boring in and Norton was boxing carefully. The style neutralises the tactic.

Foreman loaded up on his punches. This was the correct tactic against a stationary fighter. It took one with Ali's courage, punch-resistance and smarts to manage. What was missing in Foreman was the ability to beat Ali.

Yes, an opponent who couldn't box.

On another note, has anyone here seen George Foreman's second fight with Gregorio Peralta? I'm sure it was filmed but I've never seen it. From what I've read it sounds like a fairly impressive performance but watching it could be different of course.
