Did Golovkin had a chance to brake Mayweather’s record?

If the judges are not corrupt he is 40-0 now. 11 more fights from at the age of 36 but no really sign of serious deteriorating. And Mayweather was fighting til age of 41.
I think that would have been another motivation.

Considering he was already on the slide before he met Canelo the first time, I'd say probably not unless he went full Thai and started fighting professionally debuting novices for over a dozen consecutive fights...

Or with MMA fighters or picked bums like Berto, Guerrero, Ortiz, or 20 year old teenagers in ridiculous weight class.

I agree he is not exactly the same fighter as he was 3-4 years ago, but that very accurate, long jab gonna be there for long time with high ring IQ.

See now you're getting emotional. I thought we might be having a grown-up conversation here.

Nah, I’m just saying with a few cherry picking it would be possible, and Floyd did a few at the end of his career.
But nothing just respect to Floyd, and it’s all fantasy because Golovkin is 38-1-1 now.

Guererro and Ortiz were better than almost all of GGG's title defenses.

Alright well I was taking your thread premise seriously and not injecting any poo-flinging agenda-monkey stuff (because I have no agenda when it comes to PBF or GGG, I respect both, not a fan-boy of either, and scored both Canelo fights in GGG's favor close but clear, and had Mayweather shutting out a greener and less skilled Canelo) but if you want to bring it down to a level where you're just setting up bowling pins on a lane marked "bash Mayweather here", well, the Dude's gonna sit this game out.

Objectively speaking, the gears were starting to slow visibly even in the Jacobs fight. So if your original question (if you did want a serious answer in the first place) was "could Golovkin, if he and Canelo had never fought, have reached 50-0 (starting out, therefore, when he was 37-0)?" - my answer is maybe, but not if he consistently fought world ranked opposition. Thirteen fights at that level is a lot to ask of a middleweight in his mid-30's.

Exactly. There have been guys that went well past 50 fights without a loss. What because they didn’t retire after their 50th win they don’t have the ‘record’?? Lol dumb

The Golden Girls Promotions did not want B Hops record to be broken obviously. Just one more reason for the corruption

Major org world champions, though. (and yes I know there have been multiple of those, just clarifying what is meant when people refer to a 'record' in this context. Random guys in Thailand who fought 60 cab drivers notwithstanding :sisi1)

I hear ya. Willie Pep, Chavez, and Robinson went like 60-70 fights without losses and could have retired and not had their ‘records’ touched anytime soon. Lol
