Did Hagler carry Antuofermo, Duran and Leonard ?

    No way, and what we saw in the first Antuofermo and Duran bouts was a little more respect then Hagler had to show. The Leonard bout, in my opinion, showed a great fighter turning old overnight.

    I'm not saying it's true. But there are rumours. Hagler agreed not to hurt certain guys, the only way he could get the paydays. Not that he ever agreed to LOSE to anyone, but just carry them. Hence his bitterness over some decisions. Mob involvement. Usual stuff. Apparently Marvin was going to spill the whole thing in disgust over what they did with him and the Leonard fight, but got retired to Italy, all expenses paid, film career, young Italian actresses and everything.

    I thought it was bull**** when I first heard it. But a boxer from Boston and a guy from Philadelphia told me the same thing, years apart.
    Maybe it's urban myth.

    Bot Hagler destroyed Vito in the rematch. If this was true, then why wouldn't Hearns get the same treatment? He's certainly a marquee fighter like Dura. & Leonard. Hagler went after him with no mercy.

    I guess because Hearns would fight anyone, anywhere, any place. He'd just destroyed the indestructible Duran. He didn't need assurances, he wanted to knock out Hagler.
    You're right, Hagler went after him with no mercy. The same Hagler who showed too much "respect" for Duran.
    Handcuffed or not, the man was curiously inconsistent.

    I just don't get where you get this "RESPECT" bollocks from:nut Hagler hated anyone & everyone in the ring & out who where connected with boxing. You where with him or you where his most hated enemy out too cheat/rob him of what he percieved too be his hard earned title's & rep. He always & with some justification felt that he had to win/won everything he'd achieved the hard way. What a insult to even put this down in ink to suggest that someone of Haglers standing would carry an opponant......more yank conspiricy theories, 2nd gunman/grassy knowll, no lets make that the 3rd/4th gunman just to keep the second company:lol:

    When Hagler fought Duran he got the shock of his life as he got outboxed/foxed for most of the fight & he & the petronellie's expected Duran to come out & jump all over him & Hagler was at the time one of the greatest counter punching box/fighters around, But Duran played the counter on Hagler & they had no real plan B & thats been admitted by the Hagler camp. Duran showed his true fistic brilliance that night in the way he adapted to a strategic plan to give Hagler fits & it worked simple as:deal

    Hagler was promoted or co-promoted from his early days all the way through most of his reign by Antony "Rip" Valenti, a legendary Boston promoter whose career went back to the 1920s. It would be hard to be in the boxing business that long without having some dirty dealings.
    Rip Valenti has a street named after him in Boston.

    Then, of course, there's Bob Arum.

    Those were all tough matches against talented opposition....Vito fought to keep his title like a lion, Duran was crafty and experienced...and Ray and Angelo, razzle-dazzled the judges with some old tricks...window dressing and last 30 second-flurries

    I don't think it's bollocks.

    Perhaps this shitty side of the boxing business was partly what made Hagler so bitter.
    It's not an insult to consider that fighters sometimes carry their opponents.

    It's not really comparable to the riddle JFK assassination.
    I'm just talking about a boxer carrying another, or securing fights through making concessions, which frankly happens quite often.


    OK. We can scrap any suggestion that Hagler carried Duran, by your reckoning. What about Vito and Leonard ?
    Or did you just want to lay out your "Duran is God" agenda on this thread ? Well done. Now move along.
