I know in the past boxing southpaw was considered amateurish. It was common to convert a southpaw to box orthodox. There are far less champion or contender level southpaws pre-Hagler. There are rare exceptions like Tiger Flowers. But the southpaws there were tend to be from none American. Post Hagler there seems to be an American explosion of southpaw champions and contenders that there weren't in the decades prior. So did Hagler being a dominant middleweight champion prove that southpaw was equal to the orthodox style?
