Did Hagler rob his fans by retiring in 1987?

Yeah exactly, he was a business man rather than wanting to be a true p4p fighter. Which is why he wont ever be mentioned alongside greb and robinson. In a way he's alot like julio cesar chavez, big legacy and reputation but ruled when his division didn't have elite fighters. All of his glory fights are against smaller guys.

He doesn't have a james toney, sumbu kalambay, or a micheal nunn, mike mccallum type fighter on his middleweight resume. We can all speculate that he beats them, but he never beat a middleweight on thier level. Alan Minter, Vito Antuofermo, Hamsho and Sibson are all good wins though, so his resume is deeper than that of Michael Spinks.

 

Hagler got out at the right time. He had accomplished enough and had never been beaten up badly. Marvin walked away with his dignity intact.

Hagler is my fave boxer, he fought and beat everyone in his divison, so I don't think he owes anyone anything.

I was laughing at BIRDDOG'S comment because I thought he was having a dig at Leonard.

Maybe there were no big names because he beat them already and they had to "start" again.

He was not a big MW, so the jump up to LHW was to big.

Alot of boxers win titles in different divisons as they either grow out of that divison or they drain weight to stay at one divsion, then go up in weight to fight in their natrual divison., none of these applies to Hagler.

I like Hagler, its just i'm pissed off he retired with that loss to leonard, i wanted more of hagler.

 

Marvin did ask him a couple times just before Ray quit in 82. After that he got tired of asking and realized he was waiting him out. as for Leonard, he was just a little ***** to begin with which I always knew and then everyone else found out by refusing a rematch then switching to Lalonde. he got what he deserved in the end tho which suits me fine :dance

I got a couple I just sent out to someone in April. I only collect yourg Camacho of the blazing hand and foot speed and the Leonard fight which was very well fought. I dont know how he got down to 147 for DLH

I forgot which ones I sent you. ANyhow i sent him 3 or 4. I had some space left over and I didnt know what else to put on so for filler I sent him that fight between Aaron Pryor and Dujuan Johnson that got his attention. It was so sloppy and amateurish I thought he'd just glance over and forget it. I couldnt tell if he was appalled or what but let's just say Aaron in that fight makes Naseem Hamed seem like an introvert. Very sloppy, not for purists
