Did Hatton duck Witter during his career ?

He probably did duck Witter - on the basis that fighting him is a complete waste of time and that he didn't want to give Witter a undeserved payday.

 

I think he did, the fight was there to be made and Hatton ducked because 'he didn't like him'. So? Benn-Eubank happened twice, and many others. We missed out on a solid rivalry there...

 

What solid rivalry? It would have been a massacre. Are we talking about the same Witter - the one that struggled against Loevmore N'Dou when he was in his prime? Please....

Smother Witter and he's ****ed. All Hatton can do well is smother. Simple.

 

I think Hatton would have fought him but his promoter at the time saw Witter as a real test that could have de-railed their plans...:yep

As time wore on, with getting called out all the time he probably felt why should he give him a payday on the back of his name, it's easy to see why in that respect...:yep

 

That describes you rather than the view of the fight...the fight was there to be made, it could despite what you assert have gone either way, Hatton didn't want it but Witter did...the payday argument is a complete load of old bollocks, when have fighters only boxed people they actually like? Draw your own conclusions as to whether a duck was undertaken, especially after Hatton live on TV stated that he would fight Witter.

You are talking shite if you think that Hatton would be able to dive in to smother Witters work...thats precisely the type of opponent Junior liked. Unorthodox angles, superb footwork and with a decent dig against Hatton jumping in as normal would spell disaster for the Hitman...you have obviously never, ever seen Witter fight.

And i'll repeat again, load of old bollocks. Its one of those trite 606 arguments that are put out by Hatton nutswingers everytime they can't think of a legitimate argument as to why the fight didn't happen. Its a stupid posture to take and doesn't stand up to even the smallest examination.

 

So why did all those WBU cans deserve a payday? That's what I've always wondered about.

Not sure that he did. More than anything he chose to deny Witter a big payday because he hates his guts. Frankly Witter is a cheeky git to say anyone is avoiding him after he avoided you know who for years.

Hatton admitted in his book that he gave up the British title as switching to the WBU would enable him to make fights that were to his financial advantage, the British didn't pay the bills, the WBU did.

In fairness quite a few of the opponents were good, the middle ones like Phillips, Tackie etc, the early ones like Bailey and Rowsell were gash, as were Pederson and Vilches.

 

His footwork was ****ing average, yeah sure he knew how to use lateral movement from time to time, but Hatton was controlled in his smothering, and his footwork, while different and less flashy, was equally as good. He'd simply cut Witter off and maul. Maul, maul maul ad infinitum until Witter's dodgy stamina gave out, which would probably be in the mid rounds. More to the point, Witter needed space to actually throw his shots, something that Hatton wouldn't allow him. Witter was relatively effective against boxer-punchers, because they would give the space Witter needed. I take it you've seen Tszyu vs. Hatton? It would look EXACTLY like that, except it would end a lot quicker. Witter couldn't keep ****ing N'Dou off him, how the hell would he deal with Hatton?!

And, when we hear interviews from Witter, clearly bitter from the fact that he didn't think he got the breaks in his career and the fact that Hatton didn't fight him, and then it be clear that Hatton not fighting him was the best way to hurt Witter.
