Haye seems to want to fight 2 nobodies (fair enough its a comeback after over 3yrs out) but then his 3rd fight against a name fighter is Briggs. Old and shot to bits. Is this an attempt to con the public that Haye is a real deal in the division with an easy win over an old man ? Who's he trying to kid ? Or does he really plan on fighting a real live body ? I do think Haye may well be a real solid contender - but he does look like he's out to con his way to a big money fight and for this reason I do hope the cards go against him and things don't work out according to his con trick plans......I'm all for him earning his shot though and hope he does!
I said after he beat De Mori and with Briggs ranked 4th that Haye/Briggs made sense and it looks like Haye and his team agree. It's pretty clear they are trying to build interest in a fight, the scuffle, Briggs fighting on the same card as Haye, why else would Briggs come over to the UK and fight. Haye isn't interested in legacy he just needs money and Briggs is an easy win that could bring him a decent payday, the risk/reward just makes sense and it would get him closer to a title shot by upping his ranking.
I think Eddie Hearn (who Briggs met with on his own) is involved on the Briggs side. Haye probably knows the fight serves two purposes: 1. It'll probably get added on to a future UK PPV co-featured with an AJ fight. 2. It'll give Haye a chance to leapfrog in the somewhat questionable WBA rankings (which has BRIGGS ranked within the top 10). This one isn't staged. What happens from here is going to be simple fight promotion. Haye seriously demanded that Briggs pass a brain scan. If David Haye were to lose against Briggs, Eddie Hearn would put together AJ vs BRIGGS in a heartbeat. That's where Eddie's involvement comes in. I think he's the one promoting him now. Let's Go Champ. Bet on a knock out.
