Liked his last one about the cop in the States, bit of a change of direction for him. ?Bedroom secrets was ok but just seemed a little 'by the numbers' for Welsh.

Porno's my favourite, if only for the anticipation of Begbie seeing Renton again!

i like both fighters prefer Joe due to the fact hes not Amrican but disagree.SMW was a euro dominated division
which Americans couldnt give a **** about.bigger fights at LHW.Ottke and Calzaghe were not considered worth it.thats changed now though every American wants to try and take Joes zero.

Actually, I haven't read his latest one - it's the young detective from Filth isn't it - the one who gets the promotion in the end that the main character was sure was his?

Yeah, thought Bedroom Secrets was a bit a bit pedestrian for Welsh, but had it's moments.

Yeah, Porno's great, I really like Glue as well...in fact, I thought I'd heard/read somewhere that he was soon to be releasing another book in which Juice Terry returns? :think

If You Liked School was also 'interesting'

EDIT - just found it - Skagboys - a prequel to Trainspotting around Rents and Sick Boy and how they became junkies - dunno if it'as been released yet - and 'Reheated Cabbage' which is a collection of short stories including one about Juice Terry.

So along with 'Crime', that's 3 of his books I've yet to get...might see if I can pick them up over the Christmas break...

True SMW wasn't as hot a division as it became, but Hopkins definitely avoided/priced himself out against Calzaghe.

    Skagboys...sounds interesting.

Not sure if it was the same cop from Filth, been so long since I read it but it did cross my mind.

I think I bought 'If you like school...' but onluy read the first story, will have to dig through some boxes to find it.

    "Ellooo Booontaaaaay"

Man, Welsh just creates such strong imagery with his scenarios :yep

So yeah, Skagboys, Trainspotting and Porno - the trilogy...

If You Liked School was good - more weird stuff like The Acid House...

Teke was spot on. Calzaghe was not much of a name back then. He had just beaten who? Hopkins has always been difficult to negotiate with but no reason to duck Calzaghe and then take him on when he was much older. Tarver was a big name coming of the Jones' wins and Hopkins went up there and achieved history. Truth be told, Calzaghes' record stinks and had his own fears about his ability which is why he wasted most of his prime.

it was fromer champ Charles Brewer actually ,So who did Hopkins fight straight after he ducked Calzaghe in 02 ? ah the deadly Morrade Hakkar , he didn't fight Tarver until four years later VIP . and yes your correct Calzaghe's record could have been better i ain't dull enough to promote anything other but as for his record stinking ? lol name me a better 168lb'r in the last 15 years ?

Stiffy , IF hopkins wasn't interested in the 168lbs division why did he send his reps to a meeting with Showtimes Jay Larkin , Warren & Calzaghe in America in 02 with two demands ,

1,The fight had to take place in America ( agreed on the spot )

2, Bernard would recive $2.5 million ( Agreed on the spot )

then demand $5 million the very next day or the fight was off ?
