He was on a winning streak there for a bit, and then stopped fighting out of the blue. I didn't hear anything about him retiring. Surely he could have gotten himself one last shot at the title during that last win streak if he'd kept at it, no?
Maybe he simply lost the passion and wanted to move on in life... But I don't really know what happened...
Herbie has been having a lot of legal battles. The racist British government is harassing Herbie because he is black and he has been arrested a lot of times
He was on Sky's Prizefighter a few years ago. He was 40, old, slow and very very past his former best yet he still had so much over the other guys; easily 3-4 levels above. You saw it in his first (and only) contest when he just battered some young 20-something year old almost into submission.
Herbie had amazing talents, I've heard stories of him in sparring with various well known heavyweights, and how he could make anyone look ordinary. Its just, he has no mental fortitude. To quote a friend of mine who boxed professionally and sparred Herbie Hide on various occasions: "He has the talent, perhaps the talent to beat a Klitschko, but he doesn't have the mental aspect to fight"
So much talent and apart from a cut eye defeat in 2004 (different rules here in UK,as would have been no contest anywhere else) he hasn't lost since 2001!!
He was boxing for Öner's German mafia promotional outfit a while back. That's the last I heard of him.
I think he was arrested on some sort of **** charge. Also i think someone was stabbed to death at his house last year.
He got cleared of **** and wasn't actually at his house during the murder. He is meant to be a horrible ******* though.
Always wondered about this too. He was in line to fight for the cruiserweight WBC title and then he just vanished.
