Did Hopkins beat Glen Johnson easily in the 90's?

He was undefeated at the time, and turned out to be a fine fighter when he knocked out Jones and gave Dawson on hell of a struggle. Did he bother Hopkins at all? I haven't seen this bout, but since you don't hear much about it, i'm guessing a comfortable Hopkins win?

He got battered around by Hopkins and was mercy stopped late in the fight. Hopkins then shouted to the announcers that he wishes championship fights were still 15 rounds because he could go all day. Hopkins was a punching machine back then and had tons of stamina.

Hopkins dominated every second and it resulted in a mercy stoppage. A masterclass effort from Hopkins, probably the begining of his peak, but Johnson wasn't really close to what he would become later on, he's much improved.

Johnson is gracious and honest about that loss to this day; basically saying how whatever he tried Hops just neutralised it and constantly closed Glen's work down.
No BS or excuses from him, just credit to Hopkins.

It was a brutal ownage. Think about the type of fighter that Johnson is. Hopkins just beat him into near submission.

I'd love to see a rematch. Why not?

Johnson was not as skilled or rounded as he would become..Pretty raw, just a strong and fit slugger who got absolutely pwned in every round by Hopkins.

It's true that Johnson became significantly better, and hadn't been in with anyone to really prepare him for Bernard. Of course Hopkins got better too!

Hopefully he's being genuine about fighting the Dawson-Johnson II winner. Either fight would be great to see.

Agree. Would love to see Hopkins in top line action one more time.

How much of a chance would you give him against Dawson?

I would pick him to beat Dawson.

    That's exactly what happened too.

No matter what he did, boxing or slugging, Hopkins did the same thing and better.

Good. I'd absolutely love to see that happen. I have my doubts about it though. Being 45 and inactive for over a year is not a very good way to go in against someone who holds virtually every physical advantage.

Who are you picking in the Dawson-Johnson rematch?
