The rematch would be the same and all the people who said he should have been busier...will, well just say the same thingatsch Not that easy to just rip JC with combos and move...he is not there to be ripped and if he is u r getting twice as much in return...u have to punch when he does and hope u hit him flush...which he did once but that is not enough
Bernard Hopkins should of fought inside the pocket like James Toney, old school style with the slick-ness of a black fighter. Bernard Hopkins can fight this way average, but James Toney is the greatest technical fighter in this department and then Floyd Mayweather. There is no point in trying to out move Joe Calzaghe, thats why you must fight him this way. Floyd Mayweather knew there was no point in trying to out move Ricky Hatton because Hatton is anything but slow on his feet, thats why Floyd Mayweather mixed it up inside with the slick-ness of a black fighter.
Hopkins looked fast against Pavlik because Kelly is slow.....If he employs those tactics with Joe he plays right into Joes hands because the speed difference would become clear immediately....Why people cant see that Hopkins fighting fighters like Joe,Roy,Taylor,etc.....People who are fast and set a fast pace will always be his Achilles Heel.
No, Hopkins fought the right fight, and Calzaghe due to arrogance fought the wrong fight. Fact is, that Calzaghe is just a better fighter at this point.
i think that he fought the perfect fight and did as well as he could have at this age. if anything, it was Calzaghe who fought the wrong fight against Hopkins, but he still did enough to win it.
I think if you asked Hopkins this question AFTER he fought Pavlik, he would say he did fight the wrong fight. Even in his post fight interview with Merchant after the Pavlik fight, he said that he will be a lot more aggressive from now on whoever he fights. And he did say that he was willing to fight Calzaghe again. In the first fight, he played it safe. He tried to minimize the action. But at the same time, what he did was completely waste his tank by constantly being on the move. He let Calzaghe dictate the pace. If he stood his ground more and initiated the action more, he would not only conserve his wheels but he might get the better of the exchanges and he would actually have a chance at a UD or maybe even a KO.
Calzaghe didn't allow Hopkins to fight any other fight that night. BTW, Hopkins fought Tarver like he did Pavlik, so the OP theory is wrong.
