Robert Allen was getting to him pretty good before Mills Lane's love tap that dumped Hopkins into the first row. It appeared Hopkins was looking for a way out on a night he didnt have it?

I don't know but I do know that Allen was looking for a way out in their rematch. It was terrible.

Watch the fight! Your right Allen didnt show up for the rematch, but he was doing well in the first fight.

I thought he was loooking for a way out. I thought Allen had his number that night and was doing a great job of fighting. Hopkins was having a world of trouble and seeing it live on tv when it happened, I thought he overplayed the injury.:rasta

Watching it again, no, I don't. He clearly fell weird, and hurt himself.

Allen was fighting well, but he was by no means doing well enough to claim that he was going to win had the injury not happened.

I have this fight on dvd but haven't watched it in years. I'll have a re-watch and get back to this thread.

Yep. Hopkins was showing some kinks in his armour around this time. The first Echols fight, the first Allen Fight very strange situation in this fight.

I have thought about this before...and I dont think so to be honest. Allen was giving him a tough fight but wasnt like dominating or even in any kind of real ascendency from what I can remember.. But it was weird.

Incidentally I remember reading that Nard didnt really injure his ankle very bad..not as bad as is sometimes reported. It wasnt broken Im fairly certain of that.

Thats right, he overplayed the injury, which was strange. I know Hopkins at that time, was being promoted by King and Butch Lewis separately at and around this time, and he hated them and they hated him. They did everything they could to get Hopkins beat, because he was so difficult to work with. It could be that it was another way to get rid of a King mandatory in Allen, but he was forced to fight him again.

Moronic thread. Who actually believes Hopkins took a backwards nose dive out of the ring and onto the concrete to avoid fighting Robert Allen who he beat easily in two subsequent rematches?

*****s in his armor? Have you watched the first Echols fight? Hopkins look fantastic in that fight.

Whatever Hopkins may have done in their first fight, Allen did twice as badly in their rematch, or attempted to.
