I didn't think anyone would be dumb enough to compare Jeff Lacy to Felix Trinidad :dead:dead clearly you've not brushed up on your history enough.

How on Vishnu's green earth are these two even the same? Tito had a stint at JrMW as well. A successful one at that. Saying he was a WW is like saying Vitali beat a LtHW in Adamek. Brushing up isn't the same as witnressing it as it happened.

Didn't you know? Whatever you started is is really what you were. Floyd's a SprFW fighting at JrMW now. DLH was just a SprFW too when Hopkins beat him. And of course, Hopkins DRAINED himself down 20 pounds!!! the logic some of these guys use is hilarious!!

Trinidad was an established MW force when Hopkins beat him.

Tito was being lined up for a mega fight with Roy Jones Junior.
Bernard Hopkins was seen as a very good fighter, who's career was drawing to a close, having taken place mostly in the shadows.

Felix Trinidad was a very good fighter at 147 and 154 and an ATG

    Jeff Lacy is not

However i meant it as in that Calzaghe was there for the taking supposedly for Lacy

Trinidad is the better fighter P4P
Lacy wasnt a blown up welter/junior middle

I give Calzaghe the same stick for fighting Manfredo instead of Stielglitz

    I did not discredit Hopkins:-

bailey stated BHop was undefeated, I just corrected that mistake as BHop had two defeats and a draw while he was the MW king.

    This thread is stupid

First off who recognizes the wbu and the wbf titles. They arent even WORLD titles. A lot of people dont even respect the wbo because it started in the 90s.

second off. The welter weight that hopkins beat when he kicked trinidads ass was the POUND FOR POUND NUMBER 1 fighter in the sport. Who moved to 160 and dominated william joppy an knocked his ass out. Then the article before the fight that had hopkins at the number six spot said"hes only here til trinidad blasts him off the list to set uo roy jones super fight"

Boxrec experts dont know **** about boxing. :patsch

And who the hell did those guys beat that makes you think Hopkins needed to beat them to prove a point?

Wouldn't claiming Hopkins as a beast further the Joe Cal >>>> SRR delusion?

Disparaging American fighters is usually only a tool to pump up Joe Cal in Bailey agenda threads.

guys go easy on bailey. remember he is talking relatively. To Bails, the WBO title from the 1990s which was worthless, is an amazing thing for him. So the WBF title to him is a valid and important world title that Hopkins ducked, whereas to everyone else its a worthless peice of ****.

remember Baileys topsy turvy world logic, and then it all makes sense.

The knockout of Joppy was a real eye-opener, and fully justified Trinidad being favoured going into the Hopkins fight. Tito walked through a respected and highly skilled MW titlist, and appeared to have carried his power up from 154. If anything, he looked better at 154 than he did at 147, where he regularly complained about being tight at the weight.

Hopkins' dissection of Trinidad was one of the best wins of the decade, and no amount of revisionism can downgrade it. Beating a truly great fighter slightly above his prime weight is more impressive than beating a dozen average fighters or a few good ones.

That said, Hopkins' opposition on the whole was **** poor in comparison to other great middleweights, and on that basis it's difficult to rank him as a top 5 ATG at 160.
