And he was apparently quite good at it. He and Patterson even ran one together and despite being quite portly at the time, Ingemar beat Patterson in the race, much to Floyd’s surprise. Johansson was a good competitor even into advanced age.

Good comment. Never thought about it before. That before-the-final-bell knockdown ended Johansson's career. However I do think Ingo was ready to call it quits. Alas, the championship days -- those luxurious, languorous days of lingonberry and Hollywood tarts -- were over.

That’s how I saw it but despite the fouls, it was clear as day Ingo was a shot fighter.

Reminded me of Wilder in his latest two fights, in their output was down by their standards, and they both had trouble pulling the trigger on their lethal right hands.

Ingo won every round of his last fight though against future title contender. Wilders more the Brian London here than the Ingo losing every round but hoping for a lucky KO. Ingos power being gone doesn't mean he shot. Means his power was gone. Like Louis he couldn't knock anyone out but he could outbox all but the very best HWs.

Yes, just looked it up. It’s a 12 minute feature, entitled:
Pals: Sonny Liston & Ingemar Johansson.
    ET’s Ramblings : Boxing & Strength History.
Also one on Patterson & Johansson, Pals to the End.
It’s a good site for ET’s features on boxing history.
Hope you get it okay, that’s the exact title, I’ve given. Would’ve up/downloaded it for you, but don’t know how to.

People say that Johansson won every round except the last against London, but it's a matter of opinion. The United Press said he did, but the Associated Press described the fight as "surprisingly even" and said that London "would have earned at least a draw if the fight had lasted a little longer". Peter Wilson of the Daily Mirror scored it 6-4-2 for Johansson in rounds but said that London "deserved at least a draw considering the large margin by which he won the last round." The referee's official scorecard wasn't announced.

To make it easier for anyone else interested in seeing these. Thank you again! I’m a big Johansson fan.

The dementia also was the cause of Floyd resigning from the New York Commission. Both of them came out of their 3 fights damaged, I hate to say. Great to see their ongoing friendship.

Ingo could have made some big money fighting Ali, but thankfully he decided not to chase the dollar any longer..

"would have earned at least a draw if the fight had lasted a little longer"

How does that make sense if Ingo won a decision and London scored a knockdown in the final seconds?
