My Mexican friends that claim that Cotto quit.

Please tell me if you feel that Isreal Vazquez quit against Marquez in their first fight?

Or is there a double standard?

Israel quit because he couldnt breathe and Cotto quit because he had nothing left. Yes, they both quit.

    F*ck yeah he quit...so what...???

He was already having diffuclty breathing, it was only the mid rounds of the fight, and he was afraid that what was left of his nose would get forced up into his brain...

Exactly but some people try to put a fighter down when they are just looking after themselves.

And Vazquez came back and beat Rafa 2 more times.

Now lets see how cotto bounces back!

yes vasquez quit as well as cotto but I don't see anything wrong in them doing so. Both have proven to be warriors but just had an off night nothing, wrong with that.

Fighters get put down all the time. A fighter can go out there and dominate his opponent and still get criticised on this forum. Cotto was the heavy favorite, and many of his fans claimed he would steamroll Margo. He ended up taking a beating despite the fact that he spent most of the night retreating, and then he called it quits in the 11th. A backlash is to be exected.

Is your point that if Vazquez quit, then Cotto is justified in quiting...???

If so, it's not needed. A fighter can quit anytime he wants...but he's going to face the criticism that goes with it. Regardless of what his huggers think of it.

Even Vasquez with his broken nose faced criticism...

I really wish someone invented a new word to describe when a man is so badly injured he cannot continue without risking severe permenant damage or disfigurement.

Although this is technically 'quitting' by most peoples literal definition of the word, there is a world of difference between this and a No Mas turning your back gesture.

Boxing is not a fight to the death, this isn't the Middle Ages, a man should be able to end the contest because of injury without suffering the negative implications of being said to have quit.

If someone quits a job because they hate it, they've quit. If someone has to leave their job because they are injured and can no longer perform the job, this is not called quitting.
It would be great if we could pay boxers the same respect as binmen and bus drivers.
