No my point is that I don't remeber this much critisism from the Mexican fans after Izzy quit. But he bounced back nicely and all is forgotten. Hopefully Cotto can do the same.
Yes, the word has a negative conotation. That's why people should simply focus on its denotation. Duran blew up to 240 lbs. after that first Leonard. Leonard, being the sneaky ******* that he was, knew this and offered Duran a shitload of money for a rematch. Duran had to kill himself to make weight. He was fatigued and cramping against Leonard. Leonard acted like a clown in there. Duran was fatigued, cramped, and frustrated. He gave up thinking he would get a rubber match. He wouldn't get that rubber match for years.:verysad Again, focus on the denotation. It will make things easier Here's the thing, Cotto could've continued. He chose no to. I don't blame him, but he still called it quits when he could've continued Yeah, but binmen and bus drivers play a more intregal role in society and they don't get nearly as much money and adoration as pro athletes.
Boxing is an athletic competition between two warriors, whose primary goal is to make the adversary quit...or to dominate him in such fashion that it is not neccessary. The crumbling of your adversary is a stated goal, and is not to be downplayed to the point of having no significance...when in fact, a victory which sees an opponent demoralized to the point of withdrawl from the contest...is a more impactful victory. If one can not perform his job due to injuries, and the fighter standing across the ring from him is the one who gave him those injuries...and those dire circumstances cause your heart to stop pushing you through the physically inevitable...you can call it whatever you want...the term retired is used...but it means the same thing as QUIT.
If he didn't quit he would have goten KOed,his nose was busted up he couldn't breathe,no point in continuing
Good luck to Cotto. ...but Izzy did take **** #1. ...and #2, he had a legit fear of having his face beaten beyond the realms of reconstructive surgery. I happen to be one of the people that doesn't critisize Izzy too much for it, because I knew he suffered serious physical damage...and that he doesn't want to look like Michael Jackson when this is over. If IZZY's nose was not broken, I don't think anybody would have expected him to quit...and that is a KEY difference. What part of Cotto's body did Margo break ( I wasn't aware of any, other than his will), I'm not being a dick...I just haven't heard of the simillarity between Cotto and his Vasquez' circumstances.
Didn't Cotto's nose get broken too in the second round? Or am I missing something? All of your eloquent writing does not change the fact that we as fans don't know what these guys are going through and what injuries they substain!
As I said, I didn't know if he broke anything...I'm not challenging the statement. ...all of your emotional writing can't make his quit, turn into a "went out fighting."
There was no choice but to call it a day, honestly his nose was ****ed up badly, and it wasnt just in this fight, in his fight prior to with Jhonny Gonzales that is where the nose injury took place it was badly broken in that fight, and I dont think he took enough time away to allow it to fully heal correctly which is why Marquez walked away with the win in their first fight. No he didnt quit he made the right decision to live and fight another day.
Um, because he took a knee voluntarily without getting hit and then got right back up when the fight was stopped. He wasn't knocked out, and his cuts weren't bad enough where the ref or doctor had to stop the fight.
exactly they had a very ligitamte reason to not continue. hell loads of fighters quit in there corners it's only when they are out in the middle of a round they get judged for it. cotto isnt a coward and everyone knows that. there is an extent to where a man can take his body. This content is protected that is not the face fo a winner. ahead on the cards he might of been but he was clearly having problems uot boxign margo for the whole fight.
