O Brien had lost 2 fights in the last 4 years, when he faced Johnson.

He was 31 years old, same age as Johnson.

He would go on to beat heavies such as, Schreck, and Flynn over the next 3 years.

Keep it coming. Old Pal :good

When Peter Jackson left the UK ,he had hand tremors caused by drink he was an alcoholic and described by his sparring partner as a "physical wreck".
I'll give you a doctors certificate concerning Jackson's TB in exchange for one from you concerning Burn's Jaundice

"After 1892 Jackson was unable to obtain fights. Past his prime, he was debilitated by fast living and probably even then tubercular. He taught boxing, worked as a publican, toured as an actor in Uncle Tom's Cabin and boxed exhibitions. In March 1898 he was sacrificed to Jim Jeffries, who flattened him in three rounds, and next year suffered the third of his losses in thirty-seven fights at the hands of a fourth-rater at Vancouver. Money was raised to send him to Australia, where he toured with Fitzgerald's circus but he was too ill to box. After several benefits he was sent to Queensland where he died of tuberculosis at Roma on 13 July 1901. He was buried with Anglican rites and pomp in Toowong cemetery. A magnificent tomb was later erected by subscription with the words, 'This was a man'."

" Over the next several years, Jackson fought when he could obtain a match, acted, and ran a boxing school in London. In 1898, an over-the-hill Jackson lost to future champion James J. Jeffries on a fourth-round knockout. Shortly thereafter, Jackson returned to Australia to fight the tuberculosis which ultimately killed him."

"Peter Jackson's last notable fight was in London in May 1892, when he fought fellow Australian Paddy Slavin for the British title. Jackson won a fight that was reported as "vicious" in ten rounds. Unfortunately the years of punishment from his fights and his heavy use of alcohol then started to have a detrimental effect on Jackson, who went through the motions with exhibition bouts and stage productions in order to survive. He was hospitalised in Vancouver before coming home to live in the Queensland town of Roma where he died from tuberculosis in July 1901. He was forty years old. The London Sporting Times wrote: "Peter had a soul above all the miserable tricks that so frequently degrade the professional pugilist; in short, he was at heart a gentleman and Boxiana would be all the better today for a few more like him. Peace to his ashes."

Money was raised by public subscription to build a monument for Jackson's grave at Toowong cemetery. It stands on the top of a hill, and is inscribed with a Shakespearean quote: "This was a man".

Flynn got a title match because, 8 months previously he had beaten Carl Morris who was perceived at the time as a coming white threat to Johnson.

Flynn gave Morris a real beating.

Flynn had won his last 3 fights by ko and ,had not lost a fight for 2 years .
The loss was to Sam Langford ,and, a month earlier he had beaten Langford on points.
The Flynn fight was a financial success, for Johnson, Flynn, and Curley the promoter ,and that 's why it happened.

Same reason Vitali is fighting Solis ,and fought Briggs ,and Sosnowski .$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

    Simple really.
Don't hesitate to ask when you are stuck, Old Pal .

Your Pal Boucher is allways willing to explain things to you.
