Did Jack Sharkey say that no black fighter could ever beat him?

I read somewhere that Sharkey called Wills the n word but I forgot the source

 

He'd have his hands full with almost every sixties and seventies top ten heavyweight. I would pay to see him call a guy like Ron Lyle the Nword.

 

I think Sharkey holds his own in the 70s

 

Ali,Foreman, Norton, and Frazier are sure Ls. If he calls Big George the Nword to his face and the ref has a slow whistle he goes out like Apollo Creed.

 

Norton isn't a sure L, and I think a peak Sharkey would trouble the rest as well. Well, not Foreman.

 

Sharkey was kind of a head case, wasn’t he? Although at his absolute peak … which you never could guarantee him showing … IMO anyone he faced would know that they’d been in a fight even if they ended up whipping him.

 

6 foot, buck ninety, 72 inch reach. A motivated George especially if he thought he was in the ring with a racist could kill him.

 

That’s true LOL, but George was uniquely fearsome.

 

Either way, I think Joe Louis dissuaded Brother Sharkey of that notion, if he held it, in 1936. Horribly one-sided fight and I posted a while back from the New York Daily News coverage that was brutal, just brutal, to Sharkey.

 

His exact words (as I remember them) were, "I have a hex on black fighters." He thought so because he beat Wills and Godfrey.

 

NO, NO, NO. He said he had a Mex on black fighters. Meaning, he was like a Mexican fighter to them. But he wasn't. He was actually just like a Wonderbread white guy to everyone. Some people think that was his downfall, but I think that this is equally and disgustingly racist, in and of itself. As a notion.

 

Sharkey would outbox and easily befuddle Lyle in the ring.

 

What difference would it make if he did? His career ended almost 90 years ago and he died years ago.
What are you trying to imply?
Over the last 20 odd years it has become common for black fighters to say that no white fighter will ever beat them.
So where does that leave us?
