    Beltholder = Champion.

    The WBA is a major world title and Roy Jones had that, making him a former Heavyweight champion. No, not the best in the division but still a champion. It's not his problem that title was vacant long ago and Ruiz/Holyfield fought for it.

    Based on your logic Holyfield shouldn't be considered a champion for beating Ruiz to get that title and Ruiz shouldn't be considered a champion either. Same applies to Byrd and thousands of other examples. This is the system in boxing, like it or not. Ruiz tried to make a fight with Lewis, so did Byrd.

    Toney didn't beat Ruiz, it says so in the official recordbook, so no.

    No...only b/c James isn't a what you would call an Average Boxer...just like Roy Jones is not an avg boxer. Both men are supremely talented and skilled. What they proved was that their status and how they are precieved by the boxing world is justified. Not all MW's could do what these two future ATG's could. But then again, RUIZ isn't the "Creme de la Creme" of HW's either. He was a very good HW in a very WEAK era of the division....Both JT and RJ were able to capitalize on that fact.

    Lennox Lewis was THE Heavyweight Champion at the time. You can't say Jones, Ruiz, Byrd or anyone else was a Champion. There is only one and at that point in time it was Lennox Lewis. They were beltholders. There is no disputing this.

    Couldn't disagree more. If James toney was lets say, Antwan Echols or Byron Mitchell...then YES...absolutely RJ's win would have been tainted...but James is an ATG or a future one. RJ grabbing the HW title is and was a HUGE accomplishment and will always be remembered as such.

    He lost to James too...at least he did from a "FIGHTS Perspective". On paper it was over turned but he still got his ass handed to him by way of some sweet James Toney counters.:yep

    The only correct answer to that question is No.

    If you want to wiggle it into a yes, then Roy beat Griffin twice and not 1-1.

    Ben Johnson was the Olymic 100 m champion at Seoul, and not Carl Lewis.

    Etc, etc.

    He was the WBA WORLD CHAMPION, what can't you understand about that?

    Buffer didn't say and the new wba beltholder... He said Champion, its a fact, there is no disputing facts.

    You also said that victory didn't make history, another fact you dispute for some reason.

    I guess hating someone really bad might make a person dispute facts to try and lesser the fighters accomplishments. I think I understand you in a idiotic sense.:D
