I forgot about it about 10 seconds after it was mentioned.

I found out that Dempsey got knocked down multiple times by some obscure fighter in one of his early fights. I thought I would dangle it before the Dempsey critics for a few days like a beef jerkey infront of a dog.

Then my life got complicated and I forgott about the issue.

Johnny Sudenberg, who was a 5' 9" middleweight.

in both of the fights against sudenberg it said that in one of the 2 fights dempsey was floored 9 times in the first round.

He finally KO'ed sudenberg the following year

but dempsey was 20 years old during that time he got dropped, still unexperienced.

wasn' t the sudenberg fight the one where they carried him away in a wheelbarrow to sleep it off in a cave? he came to, walked into the local bar and found out the promoter skipped town after blowing all the money gambling. If so, Dempsey was a malnourished middleweight at the time.

I knew the excuses would flow like wine on this one, no matter what.

It's not really an excuse. They were just different times. No managers, trainers, training camps, matchmakers, nutrition, etc... He was a teenage itinerant fighter. No one on this particular "career path" went undefeated. He freely admits he got the crap beat out of him in his autobiography. It's how you learned in the olden days.

Not excuses, facts. Dempsey was a teenager, undersized, going days without food or sleep. That fight really has no bearing on anything.
