In 1900 James Jeffries and Sullivan fought in two exhibition matches according this website: http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/jeffries.htm Do you have any additional information about these two events?
I am sure @janitor knows much more about this than me. What I do know is that in August of 1900, James J. Jeffries had a 3 round non-competitive exhibition match with John L. Sullivan, to help Sullivan with his financial problems. The event was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. I believe James J. Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons also attended the event. I know nothing about another exhibition between the 2 that year.
The exhibitions cyberboxing lists are actual exhibitions and you are unlikely to find detailed information on most of them beyond the fact they happened and the venue. They didn't have a winner or loser and tended to be very short. There is not much to be indirectly referenced and when they are we question whether that thing happened(Munroe v Jeffires cough). People were really paying to see Sullivan and Jeffries or whoever. At this time people were unlikely to otherwise ever see a given celebrity. Video was new and only a small minority of the human race alive at this time were even photographed. Tennis is a sport that comes to mind that has plenty of events like this. But the way tennis works theres always a score and details no matter how irelevant the outcome. In boxing if Sullivan and Jeffires dance around for 3 rounds what is there to reference?
Not aware myself. I don’t have this particular book but Adam Pollack’s book on Sullivan might contain some relevant details.
I don't know about the first one, but the second one certainly happened at Sullivan's benefit at Madison Square Garden. Sullivan was described as looking "very fat and grey". Evidently no one was taking it too seriously: Sullivan and Jeffries boxed three rounds, not one of which lasted a minute. Sullivan laughed good naturedly as he put up his hands. "Knock him out, John," yelled a man in the gallery, and Jeffries grinned. https://ibb.co/G3QPSmnc
Sullivan and Jeffries boxed 3 half minute rounds with 2 minutes rest between rounds in NY on April 29th1900. They boxed a further 3rds of less than a minute each on Aug 29th 1900,again in NY Source James J Jeffries In The Ring With.Adam Pollack.
At least Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson was a sanctioned fight with a winner and loser despite the 8-round distance, 2-minute rounds and 14-ounce gloves.
