You may well be right J ,but, as I said in an earlier post can we get a true reading of Jeffries form from such an abject challenger ? Did he actually land a punch on Jeffries? As to the Corbett fight ,Corbett had not had a contest in 3 years, and that was a fake ko over Kid McCoy,he was 37 years old. Corbett had not won a fight in 9 years ! Corbett's style of fighting depended on his speed and reflexes ,would you agree ? I mean there was no way he was going to out slug Jeffries was there? Would you not expect a" boxer" who is 37, [2 years older than Jeffries was when he came back], to suffer more than a slugger due to inactivity? I think Corbett did well to last 10 rds myself, considering he was finished as a fighter. How much the quicker victory was down to Jeffries improvement ,and how much down to Corbett's inactivity and advanced age is open to question. imo. That isnt to deny that Jeffries was a more complete fighter than when he met and drew with Choynsky,I doubt Choynsky would have gone more than 8 rds with the 29 year old Jeffries,Jeff had learned the basics of closing a fleet boxer down and denying him the ring space to stay out of trouble.Choynsky was fast and had power ,but he also had a weak chin, the man that drew with a young Jeffries would be hard put to survive the mature Champ.
