Based on their reactions when waiting for and during the reading of the scorecards? Joe was almost "praying" when the last score was being read. :think

Did they believe they lost; or it was just THAT close; or were they simply worried about being in Vegas the first time?

Maybe a combination of a few

I think they were confident of the win. Obviously Calzaghe is going to be nerves before the final score card was read out.

Interesting point indeed. Few have failed to mention that Enzo told Joe he needed a KO going out to start the 12th. I have not seen all of Joe's fights by no means, but I don't think that's common practice for them in a fight, that as all the Cal fans are saying, Joe was winning by a mile.

enzo was trying to fire up joe for a final assult he knew it was close and even 1 round to hopkins and he wanted joe to knock him out to NOT make it go to the cards in the usa as joe might lose the decision. good management there i think! roach blew a wobbly telling bhop "close the show, finishe strongly", the fight was to close for a remark like that might of cost bhop the last round

Alot of close rounds while fighting an American, with 3 american judges in an American ring, i would be worried!

Well, JOE wasn't fighting in his backyard, so he was nervous. Could of been a hometown screw. Also, he was dropped and wobbled. He clearly outworked Hopkins, albeit many missed shots and some landing slaps. He did recieve more punishment, but he was the more active fighter AND the aggressor for most of the fight.

Well I think it was obvious that Hopkins was the only one that landed any good shots in the fight, but Calzaghe landed a LOT of shots total and that got him the win.

When you're watching the fight its easy to see this... when you're FIGHTING the fight, it may have seemed to Calzaghe like he lost. Its hard to see sometimes after a fight whether you think you won or last because all you can think about is how beat up you are..

We should stop reading too much into the corners between rounds. They will have different ways to motivate the boxer. Enzo said mid - late rounds he's ready to go, knock him out ffs.
If calzaghe is getting lazy or not doing enough, i think its fair for enzo to tell him he needs the round he needs a ko.

Calzaghe was shitting himself when the scores were being read. His whole claim to fame has always been that he's undefeated and that was in serious trouble.

    new what?

What I found quite funny was that Calzaghe didn't still didn't realise who had won when Buffer said "from Newbridge Wales". It was only when he said "Joe Calzaghe" that he realised. Did he think Hopkins was from Wales too?
