Sonny had a relatively tough time with S**** Iron. Afterwards S**** Iron manager said he thought Joe Frazier hit harder.

Liston was way passed his prime here. I just watched it on YouTube and I would not say Sonny had a "tough time". He landed punches at will and got a good workout.

If Frazier didn't duck Foreman, he wouldn't duck Liston.

So a shot Liston vs a professional punching bag is not the least bit instructive how prime Liston would perform against an ATG!

It just gives you an idea of the style Liston probably would have employed against a buzz-saw fighter like Joe. Even in his prime, I don't think he would have used the tear em up and kill em style that Foreman employed in Jamaica against Joe. Sonny would have used his jab to set things up. That's only my conjecture. We will never know.

Interesting because S**** Iron went the distance with Frazier, without being dropped. Liston not only dropped him, but stopped him as well! S**** Iron himself said Liston not only hit harder than Frazier, but even harder than Foreman as well!

a ring magazine I've got from Dec 69 quotes Archie Moore saying Frazier isn't ready for Liston but Liston hasn't got long left.
This was an answer to the rumour that Mac Foster flattened Sonny in sparring
Moore said not only did it not happen, it was Liston that was doing the battering.

Where did Scraap Iron say that? Why would his manager contradict him?

The fight was early in Fraizer's career, Joe was instructed to box the first few rounds to gain experience. The distance a fight went with a common opponent is in no way dispositive when speculating how two might have fared against each other. Against Fraizer S**** Iron bet his purse that he would survive the duration. Against Liston he was getting married the next day. See the difference?

Scr@p Iron was a lot better than his record proves. He was often one of those class journeymen who often held his own throughout the distance against world class guys. He was a capable fighter. And a short swarmer. Frazier,Liston and Foreman he fought.

Check out his fight with Bugner on YouTube.

I think it would be a tough night for Joe. Liston wouldn't have to chase him like Ali. Joe would be right there for him. I think Liston's jab would cause Joe a lot of trouble and with Liston's power being comparable to Foreman's and him being a better boxer than Foreman with precise power punches. I think he stops Joe in 3 or 4 rounds.
